Default z6 swap using p28

looking to install a z6 in my rex, only im reading that if i wanna use the p28 i have to use the conversion harness for the ecu, thats fine, but it seems i have to use the z6 engine harness and cut and splice it into my bays harness. is this the only way? i would never even think of cutting my cars wires. is there any way to use the crx engine harness and modify/add to it to make it work on the z6??? see id like to mod the car only id also like to be able to bring it back to stock down the road. please help

You do not need to cut into your harness. Most conversion kits have a separate cannon plug that incorporates the VTEC wiring and the OBD1 O2 sensor wiring, which is all you will need to add.

Also, you will need a couple of plugs that you can get at the local wrecking yard depending on your application. I needed the VTEC plugs, the OBD1 distributor plugs (You do have to splice them in where your OBD0 distributor plugs were. Then you either have to use the "Peak and hold" injectors that came on your REX or splice all the wires together at the resister pack for the "Saturated" injectors.

It's really not that difficult, but you will need a soldering iron, some shrink tube, and a wire stripper would help you a great deal. Oh, and a little patience.

Here is the cliff's version:

1. Need to wire in VTEC (Will need VTEC plugs)
2. Need to wire in O2 sensor (Will need 4-wire plug)
3. Will need to splice in OBD1 Distributor (Will need OBD1 plugs)
4. Will need to relocate the thermostat plug from behind the block to the new position on the thermostat housing (Need the thermostat plug)
5. Will need to either change the OBD0 injectors, or splice the OBD0 wiring at the resister box for the "Saturated" injectors. ***

*** To know which ones you have, look for a silver resister box on the left inner fender near the firewall. There will be a round looking plug with a silver box. If you have that, you have "Peak and hold" injectors with an impedance of 3-5 Ohms. If you want to use the Z6 injectors (They are 12 Ohms) you will need to follow the above instructions.

If later, you decide to swap in a B series engine, you will need to add a knock sensor and wiring.

I hope this helps you in your venture, and I hope I typed this fast enough to get in before the usual unhelpful asshats come and tell you to do a search....

go to pgmfi.org and follow their instruction..u can use ur crx harness...but if ur crx is the DX trim, then u need to convert over to mpfi. i only had to add 6 wires for the vtec and o2 sensor. But if u plan on going back to stock(which i really doubt) then buy a harness or make one.

^^^ In short, yes you need to modify your old engine harness, especially if it is a dpfi motor before the swap.

One thing you'll want to do as well is run new wires for the crank angle sensor in the Z6 dizzy. Use 18ga or bigger wire with thick insulation. I used 16ga wires with thicker pvc insulation and twisted them together for added noise canceling. It is common for obd1 swaps to mess with that signal, preventing the ecu from reving over 3k.

Otherwise I think it's rywire that has the full engine harnesses for $300+.
