Default need help with rust behind gas fill door

There were a couple spots of rust behind the gas fill door. As more paint was removed more rust appeared. Tomorrow i'll remove the rust seen in the pics, but i have a feeling there will be more lingering in that crevice (sp). This is my first attempt at containing rust. What needs to be done to make sure there's none hidden in that crevice? Thanks

look like whoever painted your car did not do a good job on preping it before they painted it....well sand the whole area down good where it is rusted..and prime it then re- paint

I just finished up a few other projects on the hatch and now i'm back to this one.

the results of navel jelly and an 18V drill with 2" wirewheel.

This side needed a second coat of jelly

after the 2nd coat

Used rags and carb cleaner to clean up. The gas fill door until i get some por-15 on thursday.

finally coated behind the gas fill door with por-15.

I have one more question..i'd like to check for rust in the gas fill area from inside the car. If i were to remove the seats and interior from the rear quarter panel, would i be able to see the the other side of the gas fill area from inside the car?

none on the outside, didn't look too hard inside the wheel wells though. I think the 1/4 panels are rust free. The car was in cali for 13 years and nevada for 3 years. Then i relocated to florida and I started having rust issues.
