Default High compression people...odd oil issue.

Just a little comment for anyone using a 12:1 or higher CR motor. When I did my oil change last night I had to use Motorcraft 5/30 synth instead of my usual Mobil 1.....didn't TOUCH anything else. Strangely enough the motor seems to run ALOT better on the Motorcraft than it ever did on the Mobil. Not sure if that is because the new oil is a little bit thicker them Mobil or what...plus it evened out my running temp. Anyone else had a similar experience? I mean it REALLY evened out the powerband. More grunt all over the place, plus it runs smoother than it did even on brand new Mobil.

sounds interesting - I'd like to hear some other peoples experiences. I always use AMSOIL and did notice it ran better with that than if I were to use Valvoline or Mobil1 full synthetic. But havent tried it with the high compression yet and my new 12:1 motor should be done soon so i would like to know what other people think about spending the extra money on oil.

I just thoguht it was a bit odd....I've always used Mobil in every motor I've owned. Plus most of the Honda guys I know swear by it. I suppose every motor is different though. I was absolutely shocked that simply changing the brand of oil would have that drastic of an effect on the way the motor ran.

the only mobil 1 I will use is 5w40. The 5w30 is way to thin, almost identical to the 5w20. It also seems to burn of at an accelerated rate. There are alot better oils to choose from as you are finding out

i hve had a custoemr come into my shop ONLY wanting motorcraft synthetic. he swears by it and since he has a 5 series BMW with over 200k on it as well as his hondas i dont doubt his desire to keep usng, it seems to be a great oil.

Yeah....when I moved up to my 12.5 CR motor I actually DID notice that it consumed the Mobil 1 oil fairly quickly. Didn't help that my pan had a couple of loose bolts though. Eh...it made enough of a difference that I'll likely be sticking with the Motorcraft from now on.
