Default vtec oil pressure

Go to my 5th post.

Engine is a d16z6 (p28 ecu), and unfortunately my vtec is not working.

I am getting the 12 volts from the ecu to the solenoid. My solenoid clicks when I give it 12 volts when the car is off, so i know the solenoid is good. Oil level is good and I have no codes (not even hidden codes). This leads me to believe that I do not have enough oil pressure.

What I am wondering is, what oil pressure do I need in the vtec spool valve for vtec to engage? (the spool valve is the thing the solenoid bolts onto)

op should be around 50+. Is the connector on there tight? is the op connector on the block on? there is the op connector on the back that needs to be on and the vtec soilnoid connector. otherwise I'd say a bad vtec soilnoid.

Thanks very much, the solenoid was also part of my suspicion that it could be malfunctional.

So you say there are 2 different oil pressure units?

Yes there are 2 oil pressure sensors. The one on the back of your block is just for your dummy light, shouldn't affect VTEC.

The other one is typically called a VTEC pressure switch and it part of the solenoid assembly on the side of your head.

Thats what I was asking about, I also thought it was just a dummy switch. I just bought an oil pressure guage today, so tomorrow I am going to check out my oil pressure in the spool valve. Just take off the oil pressure switch and plug the oil sender where I took out the switch and find the pressure to make sure its about 50ish.

No cels whatsoever.

I just can't feel or hear it.

I should feel a minor kick around 5k rpms and hear the difference, my exhaust is pretty quiet. I cant hear it. Also, I went to the track with 2.3 60' could only get 16.4s (no miss-shifts and I was shifting at 7k rpm, 100% throttle). When I should be running low 15s to high 14s (maybe even better times) with the z6 fully functional.

Its an ef hatch I know, w/e, but I asked in that forum and they didn't know, and since the engine comes out of a 93 Civic, i decided to ask here.

Yea, i have no codes at all. Not even hidden codes. I know how vtec sounds like when it engages. Once I find out my oil pressure tomorrow, I will probably find out I need a new vtec solenoid.

Do what I did, hook up a temporary vtec light and see if it comes on when vtec is supposed to. I did this and then I made it permanent just for the hell of it. Now I alwaysssss know if vtec is working. Single cam vtec isn't really a kick in the pants like dohc vtec so it's hard to tell.

i was gonna tell him that but he already stated that he gets 12v to the solenoid. Thus, thats the only thing the light tells you, that the soleniod is getting power

Yea, me and my dad checked it out. We hooked up a light to the vtec wires and it light on around ~4.8k rpm like it is suppose to.

Doesn't that mean there is enough oil pressure?

My solenoid clicks. So that means its good. But is it possible a solenoid can click and be bad?

What could be not allowing my vtec to work? I get the 12v, my solenoid clicks, I have no clue as to what would be causing my vtec to not work. expletive me.

make sure that the car is warming up to temp. maybe its not the oil pressure maybe your thermo. is sticking open keeping the car from warming up to the right temp. if it does not warm up vtak wont work
