Default Thinking about getting the Sony CDXGT200 Head Unit to replace my stereo. Need advice.

Here's a Circuit City link to it:
http://www.circuitcity.com/rps...#tabs

Does anybody know if the dash controls will work with this stereo? If not, can I do something about it? I hear that if the unit has a remote control (which it does) then the dash controls are salvagable. Will there be a delay on the dash controls if I do manage to get them to work? Please help.

wow. it's been a while since i last posted.
i bought Sony CDX-M7815X while ago
you might wanna check this unit out on ebay.
i've seen CDX-M7810X as low as $90 brand new and M7815X as low as $130
it retailed about $330 when i got it
and yes, the dash controls are usable if you get it rewired through members
on s2ki.com
one of nice dash controls i've seen is i think was dj qube's dash control if i remember correctly.
i didn't bother to wire up my dash controls tho.

however, dash control isn't the only problem your gonna run in to
you need to modify your radio door if you want it to close.
probably any aftermarket radio with dial **** will stick out further than your stock radio so you'll need to cut out inner portion of your radio door which i did.
i'll try to post pix later for you.

it's still too early in the morning for me to organize my thoughts while sitting at honda dealership to get wtf is wrong w/ my car and stupid CEL.
they said cyl.2 misfire but the car drives fine.....

I would try to find more info on Sony products. I've had alot of sony head units in the past because they sponsored me, and everything I had spent more time at the service center than in my car. Now, that was a while back, but I'd still check out consumer ratings. There are a lot of better quality brands that fall in that price range. I just recently purchased a Pioneer DEHP7700mp. It's bad ***. Very user friendly and does just about everything but change my oil. Alpine also makes some nice units in that price range......Just a thought....

Same experience I had with Sony. They refuse to read discs with minor scratches, and signal output is only so-so. I went with an Eclipse deck instead.

I didn't get all that fancy. I have a plain looking 4002 series. 3 sets of outputs, crystal clear, reads scratched discs.

Do you have a speaker enclosure in the trunk? Did you replace your stock speakers? Im actually thinking of adding two speakers in the rear deck along with port holes to open up the trunk.

Replaced the stockers with a set of Infinity Perfect 6". I have a Hifonics 85x4 amp. The front two channels drive the components, the rears are supposed to drive a sub, but I'm hesitant to throw my JL 10w7 in. The sub plus the double-thickness box weighs in at 94 lbs. I'm working on a set of baffles to fit another pair of speaker behind the seats. S-pods wont do because the stock hoops are comin out,

I have all the parts for the stereo inc. Head unit, 6 1/2" component speakers and 2 10" polk audio and an old school fosgate punch 150(sweet) but I haven't installed it yet.

You will have a hard time fitting 6.5 there. The infinity 6"s are designed to fit 6.5" baffles with a lower profile, so I bought them hoping that they'd fit, and I lucked out.

You will have to cut the plastic baffles, but they end up sounding like ****. I bought a set of rigid foam baffles and trimmed to fit the speakers and the hole in the door.

6.5" fit fine with a baffle. Make one out of wood, they will be more rigid and helps produce a bit more bass from the driver.
