Default springs or coil overs

i have been wanting to drop my car for a while now and im not sure which way to go. im looking for a 1 inch to 1.5 drop on the car and i want a smooth ride. I dont know which is better coil overs or springs? if its springs i think either tien or skunk 2 or coil overs some megan racing since they are only 99.99, i dont have much money to spend right now

I'd go springs since you only want a 1.5 drop....you might also want to check into Tanabe springs, I just had mine put on and they're really nice, it dropped it almost 1.5 but the ride feels smoother than the stock springs....

DO NOT get the Megan Coilovers.

Springs are great, they just dotn have the adjustability that coilovers do. I currently have GroundControl "sleeve" coilovers, with matching Eibach springs. I like my setup, but sometimes wish i should of just went with Tein True coilovers. The fact that i can adjust the ride height to exactly what i want, is great. My car has a nice profile, no gap between tire and fender rim. Its nice.lol... Its all up to you. Remeber though, susepnsion is important, ur going to hate yoru car if its too bumpy or to stiff. Search a little more to see what others have. It may help. Good luck

I dont think anythigns wrong with Megan, but i dont believe they've done there true R&D (research & development). I may be wrong, i just think, stick with Brands with experience. Your bets bet is, to buy them and try them out. If you do that then youll be doing us all a favor of doing your own Research and telling us your opinion about them. IM

from what i hear the h & r sports are good, and i believe they run around 170 or so, for springs not coilovers though. with good shocks you should do fine. just make sure you dont get drag coilovers or something off the wall.

Eibach Pro kit and H&R sport springs will give you about 1.5" drop. Good springs that cary a decent price

Tanabe has 2-3 different springs and one is stock rate just a shorter spring.
H&R are good quality springs
Eibach are very good

But you really should NOT drop a car without the proper shocks to control them. You will just finding yourself tearing the suspension apart in 3 months again. Do it right do it once!

Good luck

Springs are the way to go. Ive had both coil-overs, and H&R springs.

Springs are smooth ride, and look great, coil overs have a MUCH shorter spring, and are MUCH stiffer. Very bumpy in most cases. coil overs are nice feeling when you are racing and cornering, but springs will be much better for normal driving or light racing.

Coil overs are adjustable, but you will never adjust them unless your at the track, and regular springs are already set for whatever height you want, just buy ones that give you the lowering you want.

meagan springs are BAD. i had a set of 119.99 springs, they were great, for a year. then they began to sag, and the car kept dropping about 1/4 of an inch every couple of months. Wasnt good. then i went with the H&R's, they were awesome.

if you drive your car all year round, I would recommend coilovers, you don't want to be lowered while driving in snow, sleet or freezing rain etc; It's just not good for the body of the car. The lower it is the more punishment the body will take from salts and all kinds of sand they throw on the ground, it's just good to have that versatility to go back to stock at any moment. I'm also debating between coilovers or springs myself for a very mild and comfy drop, no more than 1.3" and I'm considering Tein Basic Dampers for about $700 or koni yellows and ground control.

I back my previous post, never mind you are in texas, I guess you don't see harsh winter weather , then go with springs Tein or H&R both have good rep around here for mild street lowering. I wouldn't recommend Megan springs, don't skimp on the suspension cause you'll pay later

with coilovers you can go back to the stock height, but not the stock spring rate...

I have the off the shelf "GC" spring rates with KYB AGX's and the ride is not bumpy at all. Is it stiff? YES IT IS. i daily drove that setup over a year and i LOVED it. you feel much more connected with the car/road. I reccomend it to ANYONE. In fact my VERY non car interested wife had no problem riding in the Lude with that suspension. So if you are worrying about ride quality, she does not complain!

Good luck on your decision.

just to let you know, coilovers do let you adjust at will. (for winter or w/e) BUT it will change your alignment. (by how much depends on the amount of change and each specific vehicle)

just a heads up

i just got koni yellows and eibach pro kit and i love this setup but now i need to invest in a camber kit cause the the rear is out -2 degrees and the front is like -1.5 degrees so make sure you get an alignment done after wards otherwise youll runs the inside tread of your tires down real quick.

Get full coilovers. Don't get just springs unless you like blown shocks as well.

I agree. I would go for a set of tien basics. I think thats what Im going to go for in the spring. I would get them now but I dont wanna turn my lude into a snow plow. You will spend a little bit more but you wont regret it. Do it right the first time.
