Default Creative Gauge Mounting

I am having some trouble finding where to mount 2 or 3 gauges in a 4th gen, I thought maybe next to the Oem gauges behind the glass or in one of the vents in the door or fabbing up a fiberglass replacement for the vent above the climate controls. (The A-pillar is too ricer)

Does anyone else have any good Ideas or pictures?

you can remove your cig lighter and bore that out for one, possibly if you have an aftermarket (for lack of better word) cd player housing with the filler piece under it instead of the oem pocket thing, there may be space to drill there.

i've seen gauges in the dash where the pass air bag woudl be.

also seen them fold out from the glovebox, in the door air vent... that's all I can think of right now..

i wonder if anyone has done a H.U.D (where you see the digital readout in the winshield)?

Haha, I'm in the process of mouning some Defi BF gauges behind my stock dash glass. I hate that ricer-gauges-on-pillars-all-over-the-place-cockpit type thing myself (despite my blue ricer console ). I just started looking at how to modify everything, but I'll put up some pictures once I'm done.

Here's where I'm going to put mine--

YES! I got the red ones. They will be completely invisible until the ignition is switched on.

Those are so pimp, how hard is it to move the Oem gauges over? Are you retaining the clock and Do you think that the Oem ones will be too far away? How many gauges do plan on fitting in there? HURRY UP!!!!! I WANT PICS!!!!!!!!! LOL!

Hahaha, I've been excited about working on it, but so far I'm only deciding where things are going to go. I think I'm going to have to Dremel the middle gauge piece (with the fuel, temp, warning lights and clock) if I want to use the OEM mounts...meaning I'll be mounting the left side of the unit where the right side used to mount. There's tons of room in there if you move the dimmer control box over into the passenger tweeter spot.

I want to retain the fuel gauge, clock and only the warning lights that I still need (CEL, brake, door open, etc). I am going o have to mess with a good amount of wiring to get this done, but I'll take my time and do it right.

yeah, did you have to remove anything from behind there to move that other cluster over? how is it fixed in place?

too bad they didn't have black with a green face to match oem colors or blue for those who converted..

I moved the dimmer control box over...it's that little black box next to the clock mounted to the big empty white plastic peice. Once you get rid of that white peice (dimmer control can be easily mounted somewhere else) you have a ton of space.

It's not fixed in place yet, but once I Dremel it it will be.

Too much , you have to have the Defi Control Unit to use them and that plus the gauges was about $550 . I got water temp and oil pressure and I'll probably get boost and EGT when the car is boosted.

Thanks, and since you guys are so excited about it, here's a pic of all the stuff I've had to gather so far---

You will need a SS line for the oil gauge since tees directly off of the block have been well-known to crack and break. The water temp however just screws right into the OEM water temp sensor location.

I'm also going to paint the silver bezel on the gauges black.

i put 3 gauges in fron of the stock tac , the 4thgen dash hides them really well. i was also thinking behind the glass but haven't moved them yet.

Just back to the original question, I have seen a few people mount gauges on the front of the tweeter covers, and it looks pretty cool.

I did the tweeter mount with my boost gauge. Easy access to power and ground, and it's still easily visable to you...But not everyone else on the road.

I did a comprehensive write up on this a few years back: http://absoluteprelude.com/for...st=15
That is a link to the last remaining place it exists, AFAIK. Also my contact at MQC got fired/quit/dropped off the earth sometime last year.

Pictures of the final product are buried in here, images 146-148:

Blah blah imagestation suxors, but the pics are there. I've had no motive to move them because a) the car is gone, and b) I just don't.
