So..ugh...You guys ever talk performance here??
Every time I come to this forum its nothing but wheels, or kits, or "I just blew up my RSX". Is the performance market really that dry for these things? Is there not even some JDM stuff yet? Anyways I'm just curious to see what these cars can do. Well I guess I'll wait another month and check out the forum
unfortunately .. this rsx forum lacks a bit of the "rsx forum" .. if your really interested in parts etc .. got to http://www.clubrsx.com - they have some better forums for tech **** on the rsx -- honda-tech still rules for ITR's and integras .. but the other site is targeted just at the rsx.
I find it lacking more at the rsx forum than here. Actually, I deleted my bookmark for the clubrsx one, because the people at that forum are, well, biggots.
I personally have an aim in mind, to lighten my car by 100kgs, and to reach 265hp.
In order to do that I need access to information about the american market / spoon / Mugen. Since there is allready a wealth of knowledge in america, it saves me the hastle of looking elsewhere (read: japan).
Within this process, I have asked many questions of the rsxclub members, of which they offer no reply - for example:
"What extreme, yet practicle weight saving techniques are people using"
"What strut bar options do we have, and what is lighter than stock?"
"What exhaust gives you more power (dyno proven) and do they weigh less than stock"
They all like to talk about how big their coc*s are but not how they got them to that point.
My opinion is, anyone (as they do on clubrsx) can slap a nice pair of mags on their car. If you follow the Integra Type R dorum here, they all do the same, YET, they place massive emphasis on lighter than stock wheels.....
So, to answer your questions, no, not much discussions is ever held regarding performance
a) because the market is still kinda new
b) because people with rsx's don't have the same goals as I
c) because when it comes to the crunch, they don't want do talk about weight, power / weight, or discussing their 'mods'.
Blows me out of the water!
But for you dude, I'll happily divulge my secret plans and knowledge - just ask!

Well hey I got some info for ya, even if I don't own an RSX. In the DEC 2001 edition of Turbo Magazine they did a article about the new Borla Exhaust for the RSX and it had a descent bump in power, in fact by 8K rpms in was up almost 12HP. It's 2.5" through out. And its made out of stainless steel, which is sure to be lighter than the mild steel or whatever they use on the OEM exhuast. Also for more weight saving they have Carbon Fiber hoods already,
http://www.jdmhondaparts.com has em....

...$550 shipped (maybe out a range for you...didn't it say New Zealand on your name?). You can always paint it to keep it unseen. Im sure someone will make a header design soon, its a totally different layout now that its behind the engine, and they will have to study it to see what needs improvement.

yeah sweet thanks for that. But, I would like to know: Stock weight obonnet on rsx, and the stock weight of exhaust on rsx. Then, the wieght of new CF hood, and weight of Exhaust!
Thanks for the reply, you could have interpreted my first response as a dig! Cheers

well im in the same boat as you my friend. im tryin to get performance out of my car. not just daily driving but racing. as for weight reductions there are a few routes you can go. they are not extreme but they do reduce weight by a few pounds and in my world every pound counts.
first off take out your spare tire and the bose subwoofer out along with the jack and other tools. they weight a few pounds. im not sure how much, but when you get them out you notice a little difference. now that, thats out of the way get springs or coilovers, i installed skunk2 coilovers in my rsx-s and i notice a huge difference. i could carry the skunk2 coilovers in one hand in the box, but after i took them out i put the huge stock springs in the box and i noticed they were heavy as hell. thats a few extra pounds out of the way. next invest in some rims. i got the jdm type R rims. 17inch that are 14pound each. stock is 21-24 pounds each. next get a carbon fiber hood. the one im gettin is 6-8 pounds. those are a few routes u can go with out being to extreme. if u want to be extreme gut the car out. back seat. passenger seat. panels. "ALL GONE" take it all out. but its up 2 u weather or not you want to to that extreme. hope i helped you out. good luck man.

Coilovers: I hear Spoon already has them out...and they r much cheaper than the Mugen N-Zeros..but the Mugen's are aluminum body, and are meant for track use.
Buddy Club, and Zeal both already have Coilovers in production as well.
Engine Internals: A thought crossed my mind..Mugen is already developing a kit like this, but why not build a K-series frankenstein motor, with a DOHC i-VTEC head, and a K24 block? JE can custom make you pistons, Eagle already has rods out; and Toda has their K series cams in production.
Weight Saving: The RSX looks really heavy..again, the most common weight savers will be the carbon fibre hoods and the forged wheels..but then u can also remove the rear seat, strip the sound-deadening material and carpet, get racing buckets, etc..
Im very new to the RSX scene, but Im planning on buying a DC5-R if, and when it comes to N.America; so I'm trying to research right now.

I think this car will really take off.. I'm sure most of shitted our selves when the first VTEC engines came over here, then we all freaked when OBDII came out. As we've all seen how those blossomed. To be honest I hated the G3 Integras when they came out, and now every time I see an Integra I still think they look good. And I would gladly own a second. So we'll see what happens here. Mugen and Spoon and Jun will develop new products for the K engines and then the other companies will see whats up and !boom! aftermarket greatness
The competition forum is much better for these types of discussions if you are interested in putting your car on the track (road course or drag strip).
Since I run my RSX Type S at HPDE events, I've also looked for good tips. Mine is my daily driver, so I'm moving one step at a time in the mods. I've got brake pads and wheels/tires for the track now, and the car currently is plenty fast for my driving ability.
As I get better, I'll look to lower weight, increase power, etc. Right now my focus is to get safety equipment. I'd like to get a 4 point rollbar and 5 or 6 point harnesses as my next mod. Many ITR's seem to like the Autopower rollbar, but I haven't seen the RSX version on their website yet.
Anyway, if you are looking to talk about RSX performance for racing, try the competition forum. Most of the RSX forums out there (clubrsx.com and rsxworld.com) just haven't cut it for me. The guys on the comp forum are mostly racers/instructors for the driving schools, so I trust their judgment.

hey spooncivic, did he go to dyno yet? I was there when he first dynoed with the 2.5" exhaust and K&N, I work for a local shop too
I am looking forward to it as well. I love clubrsx but there are too many stupid pollitics and promotion going on over there. Big Brother might be watching so I better TYPE IN ALL CAPS
