:: Painting R. Fender and F. Bumper Cover on '98 VSM...Must Be Blended or Matched? ::
Small fender bender on my gf's car. 1998 vogue silver metallic hatch. Gotta have the pass. fender and front bumper cover painted. I'm hearing a couple of different things so i wanted some outside opinions, preferably from someone who has dealt with similar issues.
One school of thought is that in order for it to match up and not look awful it must be blended with other parts of the car (like the doors or things like that would be partially painted to 'blend' with the 'new' color)...
The other being if the color can be matched reasonably close given the original paint code and a sample of the current paint for reference (ie. the gas cap door) then blending shouldn't be necessary & i can just take them the new parts off of the car and get it done.
The 2nd option is preferable because that's the only car we have rolling right now (whole other story) but we need it to be done well because the insurance check is cut to her and the lender, who obviously won't sign off on it unless the car is fixed to a reasonable standard. I don't know how easy that will be if there's 2 different color silvers on (what's technically still) 'their' car.
!Paint Gurus! Bless me with your insight and recommendations!
Thanx,

No it's not necessary to blend. My bro painted my bumper a long time ago..and my car's VSM also. He bought ppg and it matched great without blending. Most shops will tell you that they need to blend it so it'll match because either they want your money or they don't wanna risk not making it match. But like i say it's not necessary. The shop will most likely take your word on it...so if it don't match good then it's not their fault.
But if insurance is paying for it then i say blend it just to be safe...but if it's outta your pocket then go without the blend.
