Default Salvage value

I found a local salvage ITR. Its an 01 theft recovery. From pictures it seems like they only got the valve cover and gauge cluster. It also has an JDM front end and a CF hood. It looks to be an ITR but just wondering if there is some sort of number in the VIN that designates it as as R. From what I see it has the kit and stickers, aswell as 5 lugs.

Whats the avg value of this car? Just looking to get a good price to shoot for.

I'll try and get pics posted soon.

Thanks!

Since it has a JDM front end the car was most likely hit from the front and declared salvage. An itr wont be considered salvage if only the valve cover and gauges are missing.

The vin should have DC2 in it and when you open the drivers side door and look at the post, there is a sticker with information about the car. On that sticker it should say "TYPE R".

If the condition of the car is good, I'd say its worth anywhere from 15-17 thousand.

BE SURE YOUR WILLING TO GO THROUGH ALL THE BULLSHIT THATS INVOLVED IN OWNING AN IT-R. Cant park the caR anywhere, and your going to be paranoid about it alottttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt.

I agreee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you'll deal with a lot of pooooo poooooooo stuff! Car issues with the frame, engine, and goodness knows what, trust me from experince (owning three salva. cars!) If you are willing to spend over 15K for a car save a couple of k's more to get a car that has a clean title! its worth it, knowing that your car is clean and their wasn't anything shady about it, if you must get it, ran a car fix and ask a million questions from the seller, BEST OF LUCK, i waited and got a clean ITR instead of salva. theft recovery ITR for even cheaper than Salva.!

understandable. only reason i ask is that from the pics of the car at the salvage lot it looks in perfect shape. no body damage at all only thing wrong is the missing valve cover when i look at the engine bay pic in addition to not having an operable dash. the site is down now but once it gets back online i'll post pics so you guys can get a better idea.

checking the vin on carfax should be able to tell you if it's ever been in an accident.

it looks like a good car to purchase depending on the price.
if it is truly a theft recovery, then the value should only be decreased by 10-20% from blue book, depending on the year/condition of the vehicle of course.

just because an itr has a jdm front doesn't mean it was probably in a front end collision. in fact, a jdm front increases an integra's chances of being stolen IMO.

insuring salvaged vehicles costs the same as regular vehicles, because they cost the same to repair...i.e. a headlight and fender is the same no matter if the car is clean title or not. but in my opinion, insurance carriers should give you a discount because to replace it (if it was stolen) would be cheaper than the same model vehicle w/clean title, but insurance companies don't care about being fair. any other info you wanna know, feel free to ask me. i used to work for an insurance company, and i actually used to own a salvaged titled gsr. the only hard part is selling them and trying to finance them; people are generally scared of salvaged titles, and most finance companies won't approve an auto loan for a salvaged titled vehicle.

here's more info from http://www.theautoappraiser.com about salvaged vehicles regarding their value:

Consequences Of A Salvage Title On Vehicle Values

Industry standards followed by and noted in print by the National Automobile Dealers Association (N.A.D.A.) Appraisal Guides, Kelley Blue Book Market Report Official Guide, the International Society of Automotive Appraisers (I.S.A.A.) and additional automotive business entities within the United States of America, all devalue a motor vehicle that is in possession of a “Salvage Title”, by 20% - 50% of the normal, fair market retail value of the vehicle without a “Salvage Title”. The percentage variance increases with the younger age of the vehicle at issue and the retail value of that vehicle. Any vehicle that is more than 10 years old carries the 20% minimum devaluation to the fair market value of the vehicle.

Vehicles that are in possession of a “salvage title” from a total-theft strip insurance claim, opposed to a physical damage/impact type claim, are usually devalued in a lesser percentage amount from that of a collision or fire loss insurance claim branded “salvage title”. The percentage of devaluation is decreased by between 10% - 20%, based on the age and normal retail value of the vehicle.

If the vehicle is in possession of “junk” title, the percentage of devaluation for the value increases. This is due to the fact that the vehicle & title was branded “junk” by either the insurance carrier of record or by a state agency (Department of Motor Vehicles). This type of vehicle was supposed to have been dismantled, not repaired, based on the amount of damage sustained to the vehicle as a direct result of the loss it was involved in. Vehicles with a branded “junk” title are normally devalued by a percentage of 40% - 50%, depending on the year, make and model and normal retail fair market value.

Once a vehicle is branded with a “salvage or junk” title of ownership, this type of tarnished history stays with the unit, even if the branded title is "washed clean" in another state to be free of the designation “salvage or junk”.

The marketability of any type vehicle with a “branded title or history”, is questionable. This is something to keep in mind, when contemplating the purchase of a vehicle with this condition present.

Researching the history of any vehicle, prior to a contemplated purchase is extremely important!

That car looks familiar on the Prelude rims. Anybody's car here? Oh and to the original poster, you can verify the VIN if you look at the first few digits it should read JH4DC231XXXXXXXX That will be an ITR.

My car was a theft recovery as well, but with mine it had the 5 lug stole and im talking complete suspension. so the previsious owner before i bouth it said he installed a 96 spec 4 lug conversion. still i think its slightly shady but i might buy the 5 lug conversion from inlinefour.com the cluster was also stole so i have no actual mileage on hte car ;9 est of luck with this salvage title car

IIRC your car only has to be stolen to receive a stolen/salvaged title in some states. Maybe the OEM owner just put the front on like a lot of people do and it was stolen after.

Never know until you go look at it for your self or carfax it.

i can carfax it for you. but in all honesty i have bought alot of cars from the auctions and alot of little **** gets stolen or damaged by people who show up to the auction to look at the cars in person and by people who actually work there. and i bet the vavle cover, shift ****, and the cluster was stolen at the auction. and the fact the valve cover isnt there i sure hope someone didnt throw something in the head so watch for that.

checked the vin, it is an R! but in the auction its not listed as one... hopefully no one finds it! from the pics it looks like a pretty easy fix, just some interior bits and the cover...

hopefully i'll be joining the club soon. i can make this my daily, my other car is a Mr2 Spyder with a 2zz turbo and JIC flt-a2's.

thanks! i'll try and get the whole VIN number since the site only lists 2/3rds of it. i know about the stlen stuff, my dad buys and repairs salvaged cars for a living. its sad that sometimes we'll come check out the car before the auction and then when we go for the auction date, suddenly its missing alot of interior bits, plugs, caps, ****, anything that comes off.

thats accually not that much damage from the pics. the valve cover can be found for about 100bucks, the bumper just needs to be bolted back up and the ignition is i believe 350 new from honda using the stock key. id say about a grand and that R can be back to normal.

Just a guess based on what we have seen ITR's bring at auction over the lifespan of the cars I would say you will not touch that car at an IAA sale for less than $8000. I would be more on the lines of $10000 for that jewel maybe more with the JDM front... That is the part of online bidding that sux. The actual buyer may be out of the country so with the dollar being weak and say someone wants a USDM ITR that car may even be shipped out... We see people buying from out of country with online bidding with every sale we work.... Good luck and let us know what it brings if you don't buy it...
