Default My first downpipe 3" a/c compatable blox manifold

Hey guys just wanted to share what i worked on this weekend, Im not a great welder but I try to do my best (yest the grinder is my friend ). This is my first downpipe I have ever made and it probably shows lol. Everything seems to fit pretty good, im just a little concern about a/c condensor clearance cause im looking at a 1/16" to an 1/8" clearance between the downpipe and the condensor pump. I think I may just 'beat' the pipe in a little with a hammer..... any criticism is welcome

I plan on painting it with thermal tec 2000 degree paint and wrapping it in thermal tec wrap

Nothing against the DP cause it looks like it sould do the job nicely! But can i suggest maybe one of these in the future? It works VERY nice for tight radius close fits. They are available in SS, and mild steel. They are a bit pricey ....

ground clearance is really good...just the clearance with the condensor is a little snug.

tfnaaf- those donut things look pretty nice....wish i would have found those before lol

looks really good I think that is the thickest flange I have ever seen! Those are some pretty nice tight bends that you were able to get, ill have to get some of those for the next project

nice...I love browsing thru these downpipe and exhaust thread in the welding and fab section, it gives me idea for my setup...especially since I'm going 3" turbo back.

looks good, and i love the radius cuts for tighter angling, and from my experience when you have to do a bunch of small cuts like that it is hard to make it super clean with a mig, but with a tig of course they come out better.

good job

nice work! I plan on doing something like that soon, but mine will be a straight drag dp so hopefully I won't have to do as much work as you did.

Can someone explain to me the purpose of the donuts?

You can cut them into 90's, 45's, 180's any amount you need and they are a very tight radius

Generally looks good, but I worry whenever I see someone grind welds flush. If the penetration wasn't perfect, chances are good that you will be left with pinholes and tiny cracks that will eventually cause the weld to fail.

If you make another, either leave the welds as-is, or leave a little crown of the weld to maintain weld integrity.

When ever I was finished welding a section I used the "flashlight trick" to spot pin holes where my weld missed. Im pretty sure that it will hold up just fine.

I just got done tonight with the exhaust but Ill post up some more pics tommarrow of the complete thing downpipe to muffler.

I don't know if I'm having an off-day but to me your condensor clearance looks very very good.

If anything, the compressor is a little close, but you've got several inches away from the condensor!

I don't think those donuts would work too well for these types of DP's. The radius needs to be about 1.1D to clear that compressor, the donuts apear to be 1.5D. Someone should make a forged piece at .065" wall and 1.1D radius like the tight radius aluminum elbows they sell for i/c's and compressor housings. Those donuts are very nice though.

out of curiousity, would those gaps between the pieces of pipe be a casue of crackign later on? or will welding the gaps shut be sufficient?

looks prety cool though, but if u were gonna wrap it, why bother spending all the time to grind it, heh

The gaps give the weld some where to sit so you can grind them down with out weaking the weld joint

oh, i was always under the impression that the tightest fitting joints will produce the most reliable strongest welds
