Any easy ways of troubleshooting exhausts?
Happy New year fellas!
I've had my exhaust on for around 2 yrs. Lately the tone/sound has changed ... sounding softer or more muffled (almost farty) - I run a APEXI GT spec header/jdm cat/Apexi Hayabusa under axle. It's been scraped a few times too (hangs low) - but there doesnt appear to be any real damange other than a few light dents.
I can also hear my CAI over my exhaust now (which I couldn't) - and as the paranoia keeps coming, it feels a more restricted at high rpm.
Any easy way of looking at this problem short of replacing things one by one?
Or if I should replace things one by one, which part should I start (obviously I don't want to pay too much
)
Let me know if you guys have ideas.
Thanks!
euGe.

I was about to post the same. A clogged cat could cause all those symptoms (quieter, less power)

Anyway to see whether a cat needs to be replaced upon a visual inspection?</TD></TR></TABLE>
You'd have to remove it first. Look to see that the mesh catalyst material on the inside is still holding up, and you should be able to see some light by looking through it (not much, but some.).
If the catalyst looks melted or displaced it's probably time for a new one.

I learned the hard way with a crappy/ clogged "highflow" cat... It decided to somehow unclog itsself and empty half its content into my MTL!...... *shakes fist in the air*
guess it was myfault anyway...
but yeah.. my sound and power DEFINITELY changed with that clogged cat (and peices of mesh in my $680 muffler.)
ok sorry for the rant. :[
check that cat out.
if tools are available you could also try somesort of a backpressure test.. ?
let us know what you find out!
