How hard is cat back install ...
Hi everyone,
I'm preparing to take delivery of my Apexi RS (at the recomendation of several HT users) and was trying to decide whether to install myself. How hard is it? I had a look tonight under the car and the bolts on the cat seem a little rusted ... is it gonna be a pain in the butt to get them off? Would it be best to get the shop to fit it (I've heard that often aftermarket bolts dont always bolt on quite right and need mods) for extra??
If I do install it myself do I need to use gasket goop when I bolt it up or is the system likely to come with gaskets?
Thanks
Mike

Shouldn't be hard if you have the right equipment and minimal mechnical skills. You'll need to get the car up on jack stands, or if possible, a lift. Spray all the bolts you'll have to take off with some sort of penetrating oil a few hours before you start. Also spray the rubber hanger mounts where they slip over the hangers. When you start disassembly, remember that a 6 point ratchet or a box-end wrench is less likely to round off the bolts than an open end. Shouldn't need any "gasket goop". Don't know about Apexi, but my Comptech system came with all the gaskets I needed.
Give it a shot. It's always more gratifying to do it yourself.

Yeah, give it a try... worst case scenario is that you can't do it and then you take it to a shop but at least you tried.
get some liquid wrench and spray it on all the bolts... just follow the directions on the can. then get a pipe or something to use as a breaker bar on your wrench to bust them loose.
wd40 works on the rubber hangers
good luck
