Default Over heating

I've been hearing this whirring noise down where the water pump is located with all other belts removed for quite some time. Now my '92 civic dx hatch just blew out alot coolant through the overflow tank while on the highway. I took a look at the waterpump and it still turns fine after 250,000miles and it doesn't leak.

Is the water pump my problem?

Some how the engine got so hot, it must have boiled the coolant out through the resevoir.

dud with the miles on that car you should be down to your second water pump. i suggest you change your water pump and with those miles check your tensioner and oil pump it part of your maintenace for every 100.000 miles or so.

How do you know if the oil pump is going on it? Would I have to rip it out and check the clearances? I also plan on checking the thermostat since the coolant is out and it's fairly easy to do.
