Default bad bearing, cv joint, ball joint or ??????

Hi there, i am having some problems with my 89 crx si. When I pass 30 mph, a weird sound starts..... Its like my tire's where half metal and half ruber loool.... and when I make a turn, the noise is bigger. I doubt is the cv joint because when I make a turn at low speed, they dont sound..

I think it might be bad bearings (hub) but I dont know........

the car runs fine, good engine and good tranny...

could it be bad cv joint ? or ball joint ? or something else ?

thanks for the help ppl....

most likely a wheel bearing. if u dont have access to a lift put ur car up on jackstands and have someone take it up to around 40mph. then take a long screwdriver or something and hold one end to the spindle and the other to ur ear. u will be able to tell instantly if its a bearing. that will help u locate which side is bad. if only one is bad its not a bad idea just to do both.

I'm pretty sure you can buy just the bearing, however it will need to be pressed out/in. When mine went I just went to a junkyard and swapped the whole hub. $10 and no pressing.

Majestic only lists the whole hub. Maybe autozone or similar woudl have them.

ok i can tell you the easy way , jack the car up and grab the tire at 6 ,12 o clock. then push with one hand and pull with the other and see if you can move it.

could very well be wheel bearings. these tend to go out w/ age/time/abuse.

depending on what you consider noise, many of us had problems w/ steering rack bushings. it is most pronounced when turnign right, but does NOT sound like metal on metal.

while you're in there doing a wheel bearing, it's a good time to replace the steering rack bushing and check all your ball joints since everything will be apart anyways.

good luck!

whatever you do DO NOT buy spindles from a junkyard. just buy new bearings.
