Default Fixing Shock Knock

I am in the process of replacing collars to fix the shock knock on my '97, but I can't get the top nut off the strut tower in the trunk area bc it just spins...I have tried to hold the upper portion of the strut stationary and unscrew but it still doesnt work...Anybody have any information on what i have to hold to get that nut unscrewed??

That sound like a pain in the neck, try a lot of dw40 and find a way to hold the strut with a preassure plier or something. hope this help a little, for the men time good luck

usually you put an allen wrench in the hole for the allen wrench on the strutshaft and that works fine. if not then you often put a wrench on the flat area at the top of the strut rod that is designed to be held as well...all depends on teh shocks in the car i guess.

Nevermind, I am an idiot, I found where the allen head goes...Took out the collar, grinded it down, re-install, no more knock....

I took about 2mm off...I believe the stock ones are 39mm and if you actually bought the service bulletin replacements there 37mm... taking the 2mm off worked great, no more knocking..
