y do are u recommended to use hood pins on a c/f hood?? does it not latch to the OEM hood latch or somthin? or wat?

 

Because it will flex and warp at highway speeds due to its construction. Hood pins are an extra safeguard against it flying up and smashing your windshield into your eyes.

 

While I was driving at decent speeds I noticed the drivers side of my hood was starting to pull up. Pins went on the next day. Its better to be on the safe side, rather than having your hood fly open while driving

 

I'm on the same boat. With every single CF hood I've owned in the past, I've never used hoodpins. However, I do notice my hood will shake at high speeds. I've had a faulty OEM latch fail on me and I've had the OEM hood fly up and hit the windshield. It's something I never want to experience again...

I see it as an extra safety precaution.. (sp?)

 

pins = saftey not just for you but other people driving i read a article on a guy who had his c/f hood fly up on the freeway and left the hinges and went through another persons windshield. pins

 

when you guys say high speed how fast are we talking here? i just got the NRG hood locks last week. do they function the same as hood pins?

yes hood locks will function similar. speeds will vary by car, and construction and quality of of the hood.

 

thanks for clearing that up buddy. i have a VIS CF hood and 9 out of 10 people said i dont need the locks since VIS has high quality. still went for it because i dont want to risk my life, my car and others for the "clean look" they call.

 

I also have a VIS hood and mine started to flex around 50mph. You could actually see it pulling up on the drivers side. Pins on the next day, dont want to hurt myself or anybody else.

 

Cheap insurance get the pins, from previous experience with the hood flying up luckily I was only doing bout 25-30 mph so the only damage was the hood...

 

wat about the hood raised up with the washers?? to help air clear out...is that also somthing that would help cut the chance it miight fly open?

 

more air will get underneath the hood

 

but at moving speeds wouldnt air exit the hood if it was raised in the back?? JDM y0!

 

I raised my hood with wahsers and longer screws and that seems to work great. Its been to 100mph with very minimal shaking.

 

i'm also looking into a carbon fiber hood.

i do like the "clean" look, but not really into the "raised up" look funtional or not.

what hood pins/hood locks do you guys recommend to keep it looking as "clean" and as incognito as possible?

or is there a way to reinforce the latch hook on the hood?

i sell a couple they look like spectre ones but have the chevelle type braided wires look less clean but more muscular

 

I'm not sure if anyone answered your question, yet, I haven't read through the entire thread. Anyway, hood-pins are used to secure your hood down during racing or even just daily driving. Hood latches on CF hoods have been known to break while driving/racing, and then of course the hood flies up and smashes into the windshield.

One of the best things to remember is that hood pins simply make it safer. Even VIS with their high quality hoods state that their hoods must be used with hood pins. Safety first. Most hood pins look ugly, but IMO that should be no excuse. I'm not at my home computer right now so I can't post pics of my own CF hood and pins, but I'm using the pins which can be found @ the link below.
