Recent car insurance quote
Hey guys, i'll make it short and sweet. My policy through Progressive is ending at the end of this month so i'm getting quotes from other places to make sure i'm making a smart choice. With Progressive I was paying right around $230 a month for full coverage on a 97 ITR and a colorful driving record for the past 3 years. The quotes I am receiving now are for the R and my fiances beater Corolla. I received a quote from a company called 'Permanent General' for about $185 a month for both cars. Does anyone know anything about this insurance company PERMANENT GENERAL? I have gotten quotes from Progressive, Geico, Farm Bureau, AIG and this Permanent General. Nothing else compares to PG.
Didn't really end up being short and sweet, sorry

Considering your 97 is probably worth 15k max, ask yourself is it worth it because by the time you are through paying through insurance for another 5 yrs, a s2k or something better could be had.
Wish I would have scanned this document. The lady ran the VIN even, the quote is for a 1997 Acure Integra Type R HCHBK 3D. Pretty sure it's the right car. I'll add that my deductible is set for $500 and I have 6 points on my license right now (not bragging believe me). None of which are even with the R. I have a quote for $250 deductible and that is $207 a month after 10% down. Just wanting to give people a heads up that there could be some hope for better insurance.

My 97 only has 62k on the odo, is bone stock and is super clean. I cherish this car and do not want a S2k. Just trying to find decent insurance for her and wanting to help others out as well.

Be careful. If I didn't recognize the insurance co. I wouldn't have them insure me. Ask if the are affiliated with any larger companies.
The price they quoted you is very good.

I pay about $90/month for my Integra type R for full coverage w/ $500 deductible. 23 years old and married with a clean record. I'm with USAA though and you have to either be military, or be referred by family in the military to get in with them (My dad was a military, so I got in w/ USAA).
It also helps that I live in Nebraska where theft rate is very low. I think we are #42 or something like that in ranking of states theft rates.
Your rate seems good depending on where you live, your age, and your record

My suggestion is to use the quotes from PG and ask if the agents from other bigger companies can match that rate. If not, see how close they can get it to.
We had our rate lowered once with AllState when some company offered us a better deal. AllState gave us the same (or close) deal and we stayed with them.

A couple more points, just to throw out there...
- It often helps your rates if you get your homeowner's insurance from the same place as your auto insurance. (Even if you don't own a home, you probably need homeowner's insurance on the belongings in your apartment.)
- It's difficult to switch companies when you have a poor driving record. You might want to consider staying with your current company for this reason, and waiting 3-5 years until those violations drop off your driving record. (And keep your record clean in the meantime!)

I had to stay with Progressive for years becuase I couldnt get coverage thru anyone else.
Key is to get married. You wouldnt believe the drop in insurance. I pay $135 a month now for a newer BMW, my Explorer and my Supra.

That would be renters insurance, and yes, you need it. In the event of a loss, you're not covered at all by the landlord's policy on the building itself. Besides, it's cheap. Back when I was renting, $20,000 in coverage was something like $80 a year. I probably saved more than that with the multi-line discount.

What are your limits on those quotes? Are they all the same? A lot of times some companies will cut the uninsured and underinsured to the minimums your state will allow. It's something to check it to. I only pay $190 a month for my 98 ITR, 03 Tacoma, and wife's 06 Odyssey.
Now that I am a home owner my initial plan was to have my auto insurance through the same place as my home owners insurance. With all the discounts and what not my they still can not get close to the PG quote. I am making sure I keep track of the Liability coverages since I am a home owner the state minimum is not the place to be incase of an accident with major injuries god for bid. I will be married in August and do expect to see it drop a little. Overall, I think i'm just going to need to be patient and let the points drop off my license and once I turn 25 I expect to see it drop again. Us pre-25 crowd see a completly different group of rates which i'm sure all of you know. Thanks for the info guys.
After looking on the PG website they aren't as small as I thought. They provide insurance to 10 different states (Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin for those interested) so I feel more comfortable going with them.

my insurnace company (one of the biggest) has no models for Integras listed. RS, GSR, ITR, LS, whatever, same expensive rate

Like Opie said, I'd be concerned.
I'd have better piece of mind at the end of the day knowing that I'm with a reputable company instead of someone I've never ever heard of before. That's just me.

not sure which state this is, but in cali, i go through an insurance company named Safeway insurance, must say they are by far the cheapest company from anyone else. I actually was at a broker they ran my info and told me they have the best rates for me. I think they are located in a city called Arcadia, if anyone interested hopefully that helps.

i had P general as my insurance for a short time, i believe they deal exclusively online, though i've seen their commercials i don't know of any local offices. PG is the type of company i would go to if i just wanted to have really cheap liability insurance for now so i could drive my car then decide later on a better carrier.
there is virtually no screening for PG, you can have you car insured in litterally 20 minutes.

i don't know where you're from, but in so. cal. i haven't heard of such auto insurance company. fyi, i'm paying less than $175/mo. for all 3 of my cars (full coverage. but then again, i've been driving for many years w/o any points.
