Help: 3rd / 4th gear vtec problem, car seems to stutter and hesitate
Its really hard to explain, but when running through the gears consecutively redlining each, when I hit 3rd and 4th gear vtec, the car seems to stutter and hesitate.
Hmmmm... actually I have a dent in my oil pan, and it raised the oil level significantly. Do you think that could be the problem ??
Only engine mod is a Whale ***** intake.

Dude, I will bet you half-a-can-of-Coke that your oil pickup is screwed up, and you're losing oil pressure. Enough that your car is dropping out of VTEC.
Fix the oil pan and pickup. Don't drive anymore.

Stop driving and drop the pan, I bet (like Chris said) your pick up is messed up.

I would say not...Since hes not having the symptoms in first or second gear...this is even when the most jerkying is going on with the car and the oil would be sloshy around the most.
An oil pressure reading would help dertermine what the next route to do is.

True.. I was thinking this might be possible because you only spend half of a second in VTEC in first, but it might be a few seconds in 3rd or 4th gear (because the acceleration is slower). So, it might not be as noticable.
Fix the oil pan anyway.

is your car producing smoke or burning coolent/oil?
Your engine light will come on if your car is not getting oil for Vtec

Not true?
Not true?
No burning smoke/oil/coolant. Hmm I never thought of the pickup being damaged, Im trying to get a hold of the oil pan asap. HOpefully, itll fix the problem.

But neither come on when you drop oil pressure for a moment. The oil light indicator is basically telling you your pressure is below ~10psi, VTEC requires roughly 40-45psi to lock the rockers. The VTEC oil pressure switch runs off the same circuit as the oil light, it basically checks to make sure there is sufficient oil pressure to engage VTEC, and also checks to make sure the sensor is there. The only way the VTEC pressure switch light will turn on is if there is less than ~10psi oil pressure, or the sensor is malfunctioning or missing. It is a very lacking safety check to say the least....
Mechanically speaking, when the pickup doesn't suck up sufficient oil for the engine, unless you are drastically low on oil, the engine usually only looses pressure for a brief period of time, and sometimes will not drop low enough for the oil light (and hence the VTEC pressure switch) to show a CEL.
If it is a studdering problem, but you are still in VTEC, the problem is most likely spark and/or fuel. An easy check is the plugs, if they are white or dark black, then you are running lean or rich, respectively, but generally you will only studder under lean conditions. Spark can be a bit more difficult. If you are having ignition timing issues, the problems generally show themselves in the higher load and higher RPM situations.
Can you describe what happens a little better?
