b16a with JDM CTR pistons or LS/VTEC with itr pistons? ADVICE PLEASE
i have a b16a motor sitting at home in really good shape with cracked ring lands. so my question is should i just buy new CTR pistons which will yeild an 11.9:1 CR or should i build up an LS/VTEC with USDM ITR pistons with about an 11.6:1 CR? the LS/VTEC is going to cost alot more so is it worth it? what will be faster in the end? oor what will make more HP in the end? ill use the b16 head i have sitting with the motor that is still mint and gsr cams on whatever i choose. obvioulsy a .25mm hone and new main bearing and rod bearings and crank polish on either the b16 or ls vtec. thanks
As you can see this is no contest between those two options. Just look around what power do LS/vtec motors make.
the b16 doesnt really do it for me...dont know why, its a good engine but just not what i was looking for power wise...
dont get me wrong though..a b16 built and boost is a sexy thing but in its stock form is a waste of money to me...my .02

Go LS/Vtec and if you can get your hands on P30 pistons i would suggest those

P30 has a higher dome
next in line is the PR3's and JDM p73's (they have about the same dome)
the P30's, PR3's, P73's are all also much lighter than the CTR pistons and they would put much less lateral stress on your rods at higher RPM's

LsV w CTR is kinda scary for street if it's not tuned
i would preferr P73 pistons if ur gonna drive it on the street untuned for awhile...but it would be alot safer if u get whatever ur building TUNED ASAP......
my advice from experience.....
