Default gas leaking from tank

hey there guys, remember me? i'm the one with the plagued 90 ls. the one that has something break on it each and every time i fix something else on it?

this weeks issue (last weeks issue [brakes, main relay] isnt fixed yet) is a leaky gas tank.

i havent moved my car in five days. its sat in the same spot, today i went outside and noticed a small puddle of gas. i thought i smelled it yesterday, too but i shruged it off.

jacked up the car a bit and its dripping really slowly from the drivers side. it looks to be coming from midway down the side of the tank.

i dont even know what the hell to do or think. i havent moved the car and this started happening out of nowhere.

just trace where the leak is coming from, at least it'll be a start to find the bigger problem...

last time u put gas in it, did u top it off? my old da would always leak, but only if topped off.... and try removing your gas cap, it will prob release any excess pressure inside the tank causing fuel to be forced out of wherever it is coming from if that doesnt work.... sounds like you need a new tank, or a new filler tube/something.

id bet if u take the cap off, it will release pressure inside the tank, and prob stop leaking wherever it is, just a guess tho... i've actually done it to some customers' vehicles before.

If you don't want to replace the tank, you can try using a fuel tank repair/sealer kit.

yeah, don't do that.

I did that with my first teg, (1990 with 230,000 miles), and it started smelling gassy, so didn't top off and it went away.

yours might be more serious since it seems like you picked up a lemon
sorry man

went out and moved it to my carport ( it was just in the driveway) to see if it was visibly dripping anymore. left it almost an hour, went back out and nothing is on the concrete.

Possible Problems
-To much gas in the tank, excess gas leaking through seal around filler neck tube
-O ring where fuel pump meets the tank could be rotten an gas is escaping through there whenever you happen to hit a bump.
-Hole in the tank itself
-Hole in the filler neck tube (they rot away over time)

it might be hard without any presasure in the tank (i.e. cuz u opened the cap). But there will prob be some tell-tale sign of a leak if you guys can see it. My guess is the filler tube, just from personaly experience.

ended up being the gas lines..both sending and return..they were rusty and it was leaking through.

drop the tank, fill it with water...if waters not leaking from the tank its got to be the lines.
