H22 Headers with 2.5" collector: DC VS Greaddy
Hello, as most of you might know DC Sports just came out with a new header for the 92-95 h22 prelude. (part number HHC5029)
My question is, which one of these headers would perform better.
- DC sports header with a 2.5" collector. (factory)
- Greddy header with custom DIY 2.5" collector (custom mod)
I was going to buy a Greddy header and do a 2.5" collector mod on it, but now sence the DC sports header just came out. Which comes with a 2.5" collector i thought theres really no point in buying the greddy sence i could same money on the DC and i dont even have to change the collector.
Now another thing is, are the DC sprots header primary and secondary piping as big as the greddy. How do these two compared.

the secondaries on the DC used to be pretty small, but with the addition of the 2.5" collector, they may have made them larger. I think someone should buy this damn thing and take some measurements.

get a megan racing header and do the collector mod..! its the cheapest and probably the most hp gain</TD></TR></TABLE>
Yea i heard alot of people doing this as well with the megan or obx.

. I wish some one would but i dont think anyone has this header yet.
Are megan, obx, DC, Greddy, all the same size secondaries/primary and if not anyone know some specs?

they both suck...you will spend way too much for a crappy header...if you dont want to save the money for something worth while like a rmf, dtr, an-r, hytec, smsp or any of the other good headers i suggest save your money and the the megan racing, like some one else suggested and have a merge collector put on it...i know a gut that got like 7-8 hp at the wheels with it. not bad for spending only 225. just my 2 cents

The DC header with 2.5" collector is listed on ebay for 259. which is pretty cheap compaired to any of teh 600+ headers you listed. yes you can do the collector mod to a megan which is fine but in the end this is pretty much just as cheap

You're not just spending $600+ on headers for just performance, the quality and R&D is behind it as well. I have a DC SS Header right now and I can say that I do regret buying it. The performance is horrible (you're better off leaving your stock header on) and the quality is poor (the mounting bracket cracked due to high heat). Megan is supposed to be a copy of DC.
So by logical reasoning:
if Megan = DC
and DC = ****
then Megan = ****
Like "ilikehonda" said, save up and get a nice header or you'll just be wasting your money and time.

Well i would buy a header like smsp, rmf, etc, if i was going to race my car and trying to get every bit of hp and tq out of it... but for a daily driver and not a race car im just looking to get some extra hp out of the motor. So those headers are alittle on the pricey side for my application and others. Even if i had the money, which i do. I probably wouldnt buy one just because imo i can spend my money on something else that would be more practical and valuable to me (for me this is buying a house)
I have read alot of reviews and seen the dyno charts and i will agree with you. Yes they do work great and, yes they do out perform most low end headers like Greddy, DC, megan, obx etc. but for only gaining maybe 10hp tops at peak and paying more then twice if nto 3 times for it.., is it really worth it if your not racing you car at the drag strip?. Also ive seen very good results with the greddy header collector mod. It made almost as much power as the umm pricey headers.

When I first joined this site, people were all about the Greddy with the 2.5" collector mod, but now everybody is shitting on it. There have been very good proven results from this header. And at about $450 after the collector mod, you get much much more then half of the performance gains for less then half the cost of these more expensive headers.

Thays why im so interested in this new DC Sports header. which is only $260 on ebay and comes with a 2.5" collector, so you dont even have to mod it.
Sounds pretty good to me
If anyone has this header please post at least some pictures of it

I think for the money, the DC isn't bad. However, between the two, I would rather have the Greddy with the 2.5" collector mod simply because the Greddy is built better.
As for all the people saying to get an SMSP header or RMF, etc, don't listen to them. A header is really only as good as how built your engine is. For the money, they will not offer gains to offset the cost. It's amazing how few people understand that. Everyone is quick to post, "Get an SMSP, etc..".

andy, i personally spent 800 dollars and 150 on tuning, and picked up about 30hp over the stock header, rlz's dynapack, which reads super low, dynoes stock jdm h22s at somewhere between 135-145whp, i dynoed at 183whp in blistering heat....ill chock 10 of those hp up to having a j's style intake and a catback exhaust for fairness' sake...
that equals 30 hp for lets say 1000 bucks....thats about 1hp for every $30...and this includes tuning...
for the 10whp at the most the Dc would pick up, for $400 i guess, thats 1hp for every $40....and thats without the tuning that it would most likely take to get the 10whp....
a quality header is one of the easiest places to pick up good hp

Please show me this dyno. you gained 30 hp over stock by just switching headers.... kind hard to believe
Its not just a 10hp gain with the Dc headers. when i ment 10hp more im taking about its peak hp when you probably hit around 6-7rpm. at around 1-5thousand the power band for the DC header is probably very close to the numbers on the more pricey headers.
Can we get back on topic and get some more info on the new DC header

^ if you do not have a built motor and do not care for drag racing you do not need a rmf/smsp race header. a dc/greddy/megan will do fine. Those headers (rmf/smsp) make power up top for a reason, thats what people buy them to do, they can make you one for down low/midrange also... If you all are so cheap, you could always try and make a header yourself.

not true....the stock exhaust it going to restrict flow...even though it is still stock. with a good header you will open the motor up and gaing hp...and as you begin to put parts into the motor you will begin to see even more gains.
now as for this being a daily driver and not racing it then what is the point of a header. if you dont care about preformance they why do you even want to buy one. if your not going to be taking it to the track then dont even mess with a header. its pointless

On a side note, for the heck of it. I searched the megan racing and obx websites to see if there doing the same as dc sports, i didnt find any information on the sites but i did happen to emailed megan racing.
Heres there reply: (I asked if there going to make a 2.5" collector header for the h22 92-95 prelude)
"Hi,
We are considering to make that, however, its not that easy..and there are
many things involved to make a new model, but, we will make it.
Thanks"
You might see 2.5" collectors poping up all over the place within a year, heh.

The same reson why people just do basic bolt ons all the time. headers, intake and exhaust. Why not put some upgrades on it to make it more fun to drive. There not looking for a race car just something thats there own and a bit different from every other car on the road.
I mean why do people buy vipers and corvettes for driving around town...

To settle a few rumors.... the Greddy w/ 2 1/2" mod is a great off the shelf header. I have made really good power with this header, a few less peak hp then my old Prospeed but a helluva lot more midrange. I've had a DC ss header, Prospeed header, Greddy header, and now a Hytech header. The Hytech is definately the best header out of all my headers, but the extra $ for just a few more hp is not so cost effective. To me I'm happy that I'm able to extract a few more hp from my stock JDM bottom end, but realistically for most people a $1000+ header is not worth a few hp over a $400 off the shelf header.
Now I have switched to a Hytech header w/ 3" exhaust, and this header was dead even with my Greddy header up until 6800rpms where the Hytech starts to beat it, but I only realized a gain of 5.8 hp at peak over the Greddy. This shows how good the Greddy header w/ 2 1/2" collector mod really is for an off the shelf header. The Greddy in my opinion is the best bang for the buck
! I didn't get a clean printout of my Hytech vs. Greddy and I'm on winter break so I have no access to a scanner till I start school again.
Greddy: 239.5hp 179.8lb/ft
Hytech + 3" exhaust: 245.3hp 179.1lb/ft
btw I'm selling my Greddy header w/ 2 1/2" collector

Good info precord96.
Thats good news, i kinda thought the lowend/midrange would be around the same numbers. This is the info ive been looking for, just not hear say.
I also got another email from megan racing about there new 2.5" collector header that is being made.
lak8: "Are the secondary and primarys going to be bigger then the normal header?"
megan racing: "Hi, YES, the hole thing will be bigger all around in order to incrase the airflow..we are looking at coming out this before summer.
So it looks like its just not a collector mod on the new header megan racing is making. Cant wait to see them
