Custom EF 88-91 Civic/Crx Strut Bars
I finally got around to make my Strut Bars one by one. This is the new prototype, mocked off my H22 Crx. The flanges are made out of 3/16 Mild Steel. The bar is made out of square 1" .090 Mild Steel. It's definetly one strong piece and doesn't weigh that much definetly stronger then some of the flimsy aluminum bars out there. I will post the rest as I make them. Just thought I'd post up the rear upper strut bar. I'll have rear lower one done today too.

Nice Fabricating.
However, these do very little to strengthen the car. The shock towers take vertical loads. These strut bars should be placed forward and lower to be located where the upper control arms mount to the chassis.

Ours are made out of steel not aluminum. I know what you are saying. Being steel it will be stronger then the aluminum ones which will strengthen the car that much more. I put the rear upper in only and I could feel the difference.
i like the welds and material size
the design on both looks simple and effective
one thing i would concider for the rear upper is adding gussets where the square bar meets the end plates. put a gusset behind the plate.
add the red thing:

yeh, i think it is over kill
but if you ever go into production, and want to reduce cost of thick material. just use thinner stuff with a gusset.

i really like your strut bars.....
you wouldnt happen to be SELLING those in the near future would you???
i'd be up to buy some.
let me know.

I like the bars.
I've been designing some in my head for a bit. I plan on making some soon.
Have you thought about putting the rear upper bar lower, directly inbetween the two strut towers. I was thinking of using flanges similiar to yours but using them upside down so they're touching the top and side of the strut tower; kinda like when people put a cage in the car they'll weld a bar running between the two strut towers.
Have you started a front bar?

Dave is right, on a double wishbone car, the upper control arms are what locates the suspension on the top. Reinforcing the shock mounting points does little to brace the suspension and maintain proper susension geometry while the car is twisting and loading in different directions.
"Strut" tower bars are pretty useful on cars with strut suspension. On a strut equipped car, the upper suspension locating point is the upper strut mount and that is what you want to reinforce.
Unfortunately, there really is no unpermanent way to support the rear UCA's on our cars. On the front, you can connect the front UCA's like the neuspeed bar.
The bar you made does look very nice though. It is probably doing *something* to reinforce the car, especially an older one with a weaker chassis like an EF.
