Default Novice Question About Cams

Im going to be buying some cams soon for my b16 siR and i was hoping you lot would help me out with heading me in the right direction...

This is my motor -

b16a1
CAI system
Full H&S exhaust system
Supersprint 4-2-1 manifold

Its not a very modified engine as you can see, so im guessing i wont be able to run on any lairy cams...

Ive heard good things about Buddy Club, Skunk2 and Toda...

What are you lot using and with which gains?

Thanks for your time,

Ryan

i wouldnt get too wild a cam set up before you check up on engine management and what kind of engine management your tuner recommends

Just throwing cams in will give you a car that probably won't idle all that great, and won't make as much power as if you tuned it. Also, make sure your valvetrain is up to the task of whatever cams you put in, and don't get gigantic cams that are too big for the motor.

actually since his engine has vtec it wont affect idle as much as a non-vtec. the area below vtec activation will probably remain close to stock. cams for a b16 will most likely make the most power after vtec crossover. still you will need to tune for your setup so dont forget to figure the cost of that in. a VAFC is the cheaper way to go. the best way would be to convert to obd1 and run uberdata or hondata.

Well ive been looking at a VAFC as it cheaper and easier than goin ODB1 and running hondata...

I understand that the VAFC bascially modifies fueling and air intake to the cylinders?

With a mild cam would a VAFC be suffiecent?

Say a Buddy Club III or a Skunk2 basic cam??

Cheers lads,

Ryan

You should get a set of ctr or itr cams to start with.

Which give better gains? ITR or CTR. I know the ITR cams are easier to come by over here in the UK...

Cheers for your input,

CTR has better intake cam exhaust cam is same on both.

If you don't rev past stock limit you can just slide in no vavle train work needed.
I love CTR cams myself. Easy to tune stock insides work good gains and good bang for buck. If you can't get CTR ITR is still a good upgrade esp on gen 1 b16as
