preparing for the expo
I am starting to get what I need for the Expo early so I do not rush to get stuff last minute. I read what basics I'd need of ITRCA but my real question is where is the best place to get a helmet from? I believe I need a SA95 or M95 standards?
Also anything else I need that may have not been on the site?

The best place to get one is in person, at a shop that has a bunch in stock and will let you try them on. Some helmets are more comfortable than others, and different helmets fit some people better than others. Ask other car folks in your area where you can find a local shop with a good selection of automotive helmets.

If you're doing automotive events, you want an automotive helmet with the SA rating, not a motorcycle helmet with the M rating.
You want to buy one that is certified SA2005. 2006 is the last year that SA95 helmets will be accepted at most events. SA2000 helmets will be accepted for another five years after that (through 2011). SA2005 helmets will be accepted for another five years more (through 2016). So get an SA2005 helmet, and you won't have to buy another one for a long time.

Can you bring a whole bunch of helmets, different models and sizes, to the Expo, so that people can try them on and find which one is most comfortable before buying? That would be great!

I purchased my helmet from http://www.helmetcity.com/. They offer free shipping.
Just measure your head and use the sizing guides they provide. Personally, I would recommend the HJC CL-15. They are MA2005 rated and just a little over 100$.

I've tried that - and found that nine out of ten helmets that were supposed to fit were extremely uncomfortable. After shipping multiple uncomfortable helmets back and forth, I decided that it's much easier to go to a shop that carries a large selection, and choose one that fits well.

If you are getting a helmet for automobile use, DON'T get a motorcycle helmet (that one or any other motorcycle helmet). Many groups won't let you use them. Also, there are differences in their design that makes them less suitable than an SA-rated helmet.
Incidentally, motorcycle helmet ratings are M, not MA.

Reminder - anyone who is using a helmet with an SA95 rating should be aware that starting in 2007, most events will no longer accept that rating, and will require SA2000 or SA2005. (Events accepting motorcycle helmets will do the same thing with M95, M2000, and M2005.)

Buy a cheap helmet, you have a cheap head, though pick accordingly within your budget. If you plan to do more track events, I personally like Arai. It's preference though, and nsxtasy is right, go to your local race shop and try helmets on. You might see one on the web that looks cool but then when you get it the helmet fits like crap.

I had heard Arai helmets recommended by others, too. So I went to a shop in the Chicago area to try on a bunch of helmets of various brands. I found that the $300 Bell helmet fit me better than the $800-1300 Arai helmets. (You might find the opposite is true for your head, of course.)

Mine is about the same size (slightly larger than 7 3/4). I tried on extra large helmets from Arai, Impact, Simpson, and Bell. I found that the extra large size of the Bell Sport 3 and Bell M2 helmets both fit me just fine. These are the lowest price full-face SA2005 helmets from Bell, $319 list price; the M2 has the larger eyeport, good for folks who normally wear glasses. If you don't need one right away, you're welcome to try mine on at the ITR Expo.

There is not a shop around me that carries a huge selection of helmets so for the sake of convenience, I measured my head and went with the HJC sizing chart the site listed and my helmet fits me fine. <shrug>

The reason I went with the M-rating it was much cheaper than the SA-rated helmets I looked at and it qualified for what I needed the helmet for (ie WTD Expo/autocross). And MA...yeah it was a typo.
Edit: Just an FYI regarding the main difference btn SA2005 and M2005 Ratings taken from http://www.gforceracinggear.com/products/helmets/:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Snell SA2005 - M2005. Our customers have asked what the difference is between a Snell SA2005 and M2005 certification for a helmet. All Snell tests for these specifications include multiple impact tests at 78 degrees (dry and wet) and 120 degrees. The Snell M2005 specification is the base for the specs. The SA2005 – used primarily for auto racing – adds not only the thicker shield, but also the use of flame retardant paint, trim, retention strap and interior. The Snell SA2005 helmet also meets an additional rollbar impact test.</TD></TR></TABLE>
