Door locking mechanism - bars and things (not locking)
when I hit the lock button on my car (doors closed), the driver's side door does not lock. It manual lever thing (red rectangle) only pulls like 1/2 way and does not lock the door.
I took the door panel off to try and get a better idea of what was going on. There seems to be no damage to the rod itself. If it makes any sense, it feels like the plastic manual lever does not have enough torque. If I pull on the rod it locks pretty easy. Does this sound like an easy, oil it to fix it issue? If so, where do I oil it? The other end of the rod goes to the door jam edge of the door.

It is just the driver's side door.

I'm guessing your drivers side door is open when you do this? If so it's a acura safety thing I think. When the door is open pull the handle from the inside and lock it.
My 96 does the same thing, I have to pull the handle on the inside, then lock it...and my passenger side lock sometimes makes a machine gun like noise, like its not catching, and I have to manually lock it....Let me know if you find anything out Takumi ok? Thanks.

It doesn't matter if the door is closed, or if I pull the handle and to lock it. It's the same result... difficult to lock. i.e. most of the time when I arm my alarm, the driver's side door does not lock any more.
If the door panel off & the handle pulled, I have to pull on the upper rod a couple times, and relatively hard to get it to lock.

correct.
correct.
Are you getting the machine gun sound? If not, you probably have a problem with the "safety" catch in part #25. Especially since you cannot manually or automatically lock the door regarless of whether it is open or closed.

This may be beyond a simple oiling fix.

I had the same problem happen to my car. There is a rod that is attached to the inside of the door latch. This rod may be off alignment. This is the safety feature so that you don't lock the door before it is closed. Remove the door handle and the three screws holding the latch on to access this part. Good luck
can't find it.... is there a way you can search for replies by user name or only threads started?
Anyway, long story short I disconnected the door lock linkage going from the interior manual door lock to the locking mechanism. I don't remember if i removed it or if i cut it... but i can no longer lock my door manually. that solved my problem. I never use that manual switch anyways.

I'll look for this write up too...
My friend has a spare one, I think I might grab his and atleast have a spare.

Where exactly would you oil it?
