I just bought a 2006 Honda Civic Si....
and i want to know how familiar everyone is with the Helical Limited Slip Differential? i'm reading up on it a littlle bit, but what information on this can anyone give me?
Sure.
The helical LSD has been used by Honda for over a decade now. Work like a champ, if you ask me.
We've got a CRX with a JDM B16 here that pulls hard off launches with the factory LSD tranny.

so that must be where i'm getting all this off the line power from? because this car may have 197 hp, but that's not redline horsepower, it pulls as soon as the light turns green
thanks for the reply, btw

Japanese domestic Motors type R tranny? that's cool, right on, if this is the reason i'm getting so much pull off the line, then i love it. I never thought i could get this much power out of a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder. Good thing i traded in my '99 EX!!

You don't feel HP. You feel accelleration forces which are proportional to torque, which is something your EX just didn't have, particularly at sub-3000 rpm.

Actually, JDM stands for "Japan Domestic Market"

If you dont mind, care to share what you paid and what options? Looking to pick one up for a shop car/project car. First one I have seen in person was on the 26th in St Augustine, FL. The salesman told me they had the only one in FL, although I find that odd. It was hab red - which looked a hell of a lot diff than the brochure. They also had quite a few accessories added on as well as a $3500 MARKET ADJ.
dude, I had to pay a $3,000 market adjustment, which i thought was a rip off too, but i guess i loved the car so much, and the fact that i called every dealership within a 200 mile radius here in northern california and only concord honda had one. So, i went ahead and bought the car. It doesn't have the "summer tires" or navigation, which is fine with me, i have GPS on my blackberry. The car is flat out amazing, i've never driven anything quite like it
there is just no need to pay the mark up, I don't understand why people do. There are dealers who will treat you right, go find them!!
some people will pay what they want to get what they want.. thats life.... understand it and live it!
if they want to pay over, let them. Just know, they'll be driving the SI , and not you! You can wait...but most people can't. Most people are rich, most people are poor.
End of discussion.

exactly, good point dude
Also, it's the only Si i've seen, i've called all the honda dealerships within a couple hundred mile radius here, and that was the only Si i found. Do i regret paying the markup? not one bit, I'm one of the first ones to have the new Si, i couldn't wait for honda to get rid of the hatchback si's, and start making the coupe's again!

Wooo hooo. . . one of the first. So you couldn't wait a few more monthes and save yourself financing an extra $3k. So all the financially smart SI owners will be $3000+ ahead of you in just a few monthes. They'll have some cash for mods too.
If you got money to waste thats one thing, I know there are plenty of people out there with plenty. But if you have $3000 to absolutely waste away, then what the heck are you doing buying a feaking civic?
