Default Setting timing without cover

The jackass I got my motor from sold it without a lower timing cover and I need to set the ignition timing, is there a way? and yes I searched.

You mean the mechanical timing?

do you have a scope? if it is an obd2 ecu'd car, you can plug into the diagnostic port.

its obd1 ecu running crome, im pretty sure I can datalog timing but I dont have a laptop yet, so...

Even though a programmable Ecu can adjust timing, you still need to set the base timing. Get a cover at the junkyard.

I had this same problem with mine not having a cover you can set the cam gears and then take the spark plug out and put a long screw driver or whatever you want down in there and turn the crank pulley till its at the highest point that is TDC. it takes a couple trys but I did it with my LS and then you can do the rest with the ECU
