NEED HELP ASAP b16 tranny
hey guys i was wondering if anyone knows how if you have a b16 tranny or a ls tranny. i just bought one from some guy and he told me that it is a b16 tranny but it says S1 but that also says it on my LS tranny. people told me that S1 can be b16 also. so just wondering how to find out if it is a B16 or not.. thanks
take it on the free way...drive 80 mph in 5th gear and come back here and tell me how u liked it...lol jk...umm..to be honest with you...i wouldnt know just by looking...but if u have driven an ls...u would know the difference btween the 2...so if you feel no difference...than the answer is obvious...the gears are a lot shorter
1st gear end at around 31 mph....2nd gear around 53...3rd gear around 76...4th around 100 or 97 (sometimes i take it to 7k instead of 6800, not intentionally)..ONLY way to tell without it being on the car is to crack the tranny open and start counting teeth (not fun)

s1 were both in japan. kinda like how honda used the ys1 code for the las and gsr tranny in the 92-93 years.

I understand this thread is old-ish but if you still need help, you don't need to split the case open, that's just stupid.

Do a search and find your gear ratios. Take a felt tip marker and make a mark on the case and a mark on the output, where the axle goes in. Then take your marker and mark the input shaft and the bellhousing. Spin the input shaft and count the number of turns it takes to make the differential to spin once.
Then take your 1st gear ratio and multiply it by your axle ratio.
If you spin the clutch 14.2 times to 1 time on the axle that's 3.23 x 4.40 or a JDM XSi.
13.9 spins is a LS.
You can use any gear except reverse.
