Default Its Official: Another recall on 06 civics

"Today, Honda Motor Co., Ltd., announced to NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) its intention to recall selected 2006 Civic two-door models in order to replace the ODS Control Unit.

Basic Problem: In some 2006 two-door Civics, the front passenger occupant detection system (ODS) contains a faulty electronic component. As a result, the ODS will not function properly and will not suppress front passenger airbag deployment when the weight of an infant or small child is in the front passenger seat. In certain circumstances, a deploying front passenger airbag can increase the risk of injury to an infant or small child.

Stop-Sale Order: Applies to all Canadian-built 2006 Civic two-door models between VIN 2HGFG1***6H500001 and VIN 2HGFG1***6H512860 in your vehicle inventory. Vehicles with VINs above those listed are not affected and may be sold.

Vehicles within the VIN range CANNOT be sold or leased with a known defect; however, the above listed VINs are early production vehicles and all but a couple hundred have already been sold.

NOTE: It is illegal to sell or lease a vehicle with a known defect. If any affected vehicle is sold/leased to a retail customer with a known defect, the dealership will be entirely responsible for all legal consequences, should an injury occur as a result of a failure of the defective part.

Support Materials: American Honda will post its recall repair service bulletin on ISIS in early January 2006.

Campaign Parts: In support of the Stop Sale, AH Parts Division will allocate enough parts to dealers to repair current in-stock units. AH Parts Division will also ship every Honda Dealership a quantity of repair parts based on their affected unit sales in early January 2006. Do Not order parts in anticipation of expected campaign needs because we are going to automatically ship you parts based on actual sales and you will be over-stocked with campaign parts. Over the holiday period if a customer experiences a failure, the ODS control unit can be ordered through normal parts ordering channels.

Repair Strategy: Replace the ODS Control Unit. In the unlikely event that you have an unsold vehicle within the VINs listed above, it may be repaired using a 2006 Civic service manual.

Customer Notification: This Recall Campaign affects approximately 12,756 vehicles. Notifications will be mailed to all known owners in early January 2006. You will be notified of the exact customer mailing date via iN Message.
