did they really put b20 in my car?
hi every one, yea i'm a noob and i know next to nothing about honda motors. but over the summer i bought a 1986 civic wagon 4x4 for $400 cash. good shape, looks its age and aruns great. but the guy i got it from, small back-road dealer, said the guy before me put in a 2.0L motor in it. i dont really know. its pretty quick for what it is, but i dont use it to race. its got a header and full exhaust, which i had to change the muffler out to OEM, too loud for my two year old daughter, and its got a WAI with K&N cone on it. thats the only mods i know about bein on it, and they were on it when i got it. but i was told that a b20( if thats even the right code name for it) wouldnt fit my car. i found this link, and its pretty much what my motor looks like, to me its jus a regular honda motor... http://lhtperformance.net/Supe...C.htm
On the block there should be a stamp saying what kind of b series block it is such as b16,b18, b20, etc......... it should be in plain view once u pop the hood. Look below the separation of the block and the head and to the left.
LOL honestly I have no idea. But by the picture you showed, that is definately a b-series motor. So its best to check the stamp first, and see what the block is. Is it a vtec motor? Or you could just take a picture and post it on HT
Yes the b20 or a B series motor would fit inside you wagon with heavy modification and a pretty sizeable price tag.
The easiest way for us to tell you what motor you have is by standing in front of the car with the hood open, and look down at the block, and rough halfway between the bottom of the motor and the head to the left of the header you will see a code. i.e. B20, D16a6, D15b7
If you bought the car for 400$ with a B20 motor with Vtec which is considered a CRVtec motor, then i'd assume it's stolen or whoever sold it to you is a complete moron.

what kinda mods we talking about to get one to fit in there? doesnt look like any major cutting or anything has been done that i can tell
No cutting is involved but you the motor you describe in your wagon is MUCH bigger than what originally came stock. Rewiring of the car is required for the installation of a B20 and aftermarket motor mounts.

No cutting or welding is required. A B-series motor will drop in with a mount kit. Just keep in mind that since all wagons are carbed, extensive fuel system and electrical system mods are required to run the EFI.
Oh, and this brings up one more point: if the motor IS a B-series, you will NOT have stock mounts. This is important because from a distance, a ZC or the similar D16A1 will look like a B-series.

if you have 6 speeds... there would have to be a b to d conversion plate for your transmisson, which to my knowledge doesnt exist.. because those wagons did have 6 speed trannies, but they were geared funny, like you said, and were for the d series engine. so the chances of you having ANY b series with the 6 speeds is very low, unless someone forked over a lot of money for it, and 400 would be a steal..

to add to this....its also to the right of the tranny where it connects to the block.

i havent heard of any wagon running 4 wd drive with a b series swap. i dont think you bought the prototype for 400 haha. check the stamp.

Okay so you paid for a motor and have not clue what you had put in your car? It seems to me that I would want to know what was going in there before it was installed.
wtf. Why won't she go check the motor itself? Since the first guy has said that she has posted a bunch of random bs and yet she STILL hasn't checked the actual motor.
