Default What could this be?? Timing belt?

k...i drive my car daily, it's a 92 civic DX

anyways it's been runnin fine, but yesterday when i went to go start it...it wouldnt turn over on it's own

all it was doing was it kinda "spurt" like a little turn over sound, and then it was just like "CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK" as the ignition was firing, but thats it, the motor wasnt even trying to turn over

so then i put the gas to the floor, pumped it while i was turning it over and managed to get it started and runing at normal idle

but...i dnuno if i'm just tripping but it sounds like my timing belt is kinda squeeking or somthin like that...

any ideas?

oil is good, Coolant is good, all fluids are good

sounds to me like a weak battery.. and the squealing sound is a belt probably your alternator belt since its kinda related to your syptoms.. your alternator fully charging get a voltmeter on your battery should be around 12.6 cold and between 13 and 14s running

If it was the timing belt the car would not start at all, but if you still would like to check just pull the valve cover off (like 5 bolts) and then take the top of the timing cover off (2bolts) and inspect it... But yes the battery would be a good guess if it was the alternator your car wouldn't run very long so its probable the battery.

it started normally today...so i dunno does that sound like maybe a door was left open or somthing and my battery kinda died?

becuse when the ignition was hitting, it sounded fairly strong, but i guess if i had to pump gas into it like that, a low battery would make sense..

Agree with the others. Sounds like a weak battery. Putting the gas to the floor had little or nothing to do with the car starting if it wasn't even turning over. Gas is not pumped in by pressing the gas. Maybe marginally less vacuum in the cylinders with the throttle open made it slightly easier to turn over with the weak battery? That's all I can think of. Coincidence maybe. Not sure what you mean by ignition hitting. Are you referring to the clicking coming from the starter?
