Default New Ride.

Im getting into cars. And just got this honda civic because i love the style.

I was just wondering if you guys can tell me a bit more of what my car actually has like engine, tranny, etc... and what header is best for this car.

97 honda civic coupe ex 2door 5 speed

The car right now since i just got it it has. cold air intake, exhaust, lowering springs, some white rims and a short shifter. PS can anyone tell me what brand these rims are or even a link would be better

Same car I have, same color, same year, same engine. The rims need to go IMO. Yes it does have a D16Y8, and yes it does have VTEC. Car should get around 34mpg in warm weather and 28 or so in cold weather. I live in the Midwest, and I have a cold air intake and thats what im getting. If the car has between 75,000miles to 150,000miles you can get a free tune up from Honda. All I did was ask and they gave me a Mobile 1 oil change, new cap and rotor, new plugs. Have fun with it.

My car is very similar to yours.... check out my cardomain page, but yeah i recomend a swap first, b,h,or k is a better platform to work off of. I went b16 (for money reasons) and i would like more power, but its good for now, till next year sometime when i go turbo hopefully. gsr or type r would be very nice in ur car.

But yeah def check out hmotorsonline.com, thats where i got my motor from, and it runs very good.

As for the d16y8, the trans are weak, synchros and berrings specifically(spelling), and as the others said bottom ends are kinda weak too. After driving my car fairly hard for a little over a year, my d16 would blow a little smoke inbetween gears, i had a mean 3rd gear grind, and my main shaft berring sounded like complete ****.

I dont have the bulletien anymore, but I belive it was either 96-97 or 96-98 Civics, Accords, etc. You have to get the whole deal, even if you just did an oil change they made me get another one.

If you are too low on oil in any engine or you overrev any engine it's not going to be good for it. How exactly are the "y8 bottom ends weak"?

Thats great that you'd start looking for a swap but maybe thats not what he wants.

Nice civic man, I agree, the rims are probably the first thing that I would lose.

hey, back onto the free tune up from honda thing...

what if you have basic I/H/E mods? will they still take the car in for a tune up?
