I thought they ran the same ecu as the 96-98 (P2P) Civic because they used the D16Y8?

I still think it is just a swapped casing. cause i cant find a OBDII P28 for ****. searched all over on the PGMFI boards, Hondata doesnt have there's listed.
Im 99.9% positive that the 96+ SOHC SOL's came with a P2P Ecu like the EX's

1. the del sol obd II y8 motors ecu's were still stamped p28.
2. you can't fit a obdII board in a obdI casting. the connector is too long.unless cut
3. that connector is a obd II connector. and the casting on it says p28.
p28

Just to clarify things this is my ecu that I'm having issues with about the identity.
so it is obd2 but its stamped p28 which is obd1. so then I can't ship this ecu? do I need to get a conversion harness from obd2b to obd2a or from obd2b to obd1? The engine and ecu came from a 97 del sol with a d16y8 and an auto tranny. I am swapping the auto to man tranny so I also have to jump some resistors.

I always thought this too, but recently not too sure. There was another thread about OBD2 P28s. I myself don't know for sure.

You can't chip that ecu.
But if you are keeping it in an OBD2A car then it will plug right in. If you are putting it into an OBD1 car, then you could just get a OBD1 P28 and chip it or get a conversion harness from OBD1 to OBD2 (I think they make those).

You CAN chip that ECU, its just a little trickier and typically a lot more expensive.

I figured someone would say that.
Ok let me rephrase that. You don't want to spend the money to chip that ecu, the support that I know of isn't there for them.
I know people can chip the OBD2 ecus, but at the moment it is a waste, atleast from what I have read.

This is as close as I can get. You CAN chip OBD-2 ECUs.. Its just that its SMD crap and requires much more expensive tools in order to do. Also the chips cost a lot more. See the large square chip in his pics? Thats it...

Indeed, so much discussion over not much of a question.
