I think i saw this one time that someone actually drilled their head for oil to their turbo and welded in a feed to their turbo. I'm sick of messing with my sending unit for oil, i've ruined a few turbos due to feeding them too much oil, then restricting the oil and feeding them too little. A good alternative to me seems like taping the head, anyone with this set-up? Seems like to should give the motor a little more oil pressure too, i noticed my oil pressure dropped quite a bit with a turbo feed line (may've been the cause of my bearing failure before a rebuild).

u dont have to drill the the head. there should be a plug right under or nere the vtec solinoid. i know there is one on the ls and im about 99% sure its on the vtec head also.

 

Where would you drill the head at? Are you talking like a gravity style feed. Or are you trying to find a part tha is pressurized?? What size of line do you use in your setup from the back of the engine? I used way too big of a line at first and almost did what you talk of. Couldn't get it to stop blowing oil by, then went to a restrictor, and damn near starved my turbo. However, i am now running a straight 3 an line, and its been nothing but great for me. No more oil in my exhuast, and def. no more smoking. This actually cost me a few months of no boost this summer trying to remedy the situation. You can make the restirctors work though. If you put a clear sytle return line on, just for the time being. You can watch the oil returning to the pan, and adjust the restrictor until you are getting a decent flow.

 

I wouldnt think you could feed it from the head, there isnt constant oil flowing through every part of it, the only oil that goes up there flows through galleys and squirters and through the cam caps. There is constant oil pressure at the sending unit. Just get 3an hose like most other peeps

 

I wish i could find the picture again, it's just a fitting welded into a hole drilled in the head and ran to the turbo. It's gravity fed, no pressure, i just don't want to ruin another turbo, this one will be 7 due to oiling issues.

 

Were they all BRAND-NEW turbos? If they were 'junkyard' turbos, I wouldn't be surprised. I'd also recommend you buy a new one from a reputable dealer (just in case, mind you), and make sure the motor isn't having oiling issues itself.

Seriously I wouldn't want just gravity feeding my turbo's oil. Most people just take the brass inlet fitting, braze the hole shut, then put a .060" hole in it. Someone did the calculations on HT once, and this size allowed for enough flow in an otherwise problem-free setup. I really think that doing this before the supply line is better so it doesn't just make it a foam-making jet. I plan on making an 'oil manifold' like a GE vacuum manifold in brass and have the restriction right there.

 

im pretty sure u cant feed it from the head bc there isnt enough oil pressure/consistent pressure...

Why would you want pressure in the turbo rather than oil volume?

i hope ccfab off dseries doesnt mind, there was another dood on there with a gauge rite on the T instead of a sender.

id personally just slap a mechanical pressure gauge straight on the t and adjust it while revving up the engine from the engine bay

i think garrets dont need to exceed 40psi. (thats what a local turbo rebuild shop told me)

 

^^^ that way ur turbo will never ever die from too much oil pressure, and u dont need to worry about unreliable oiling from your cylinder head.

 

when you take oil from the back of the block you are evenly taking oil away from both the block and the head...

when you take oil only fromt he head your taking away exactly that..oil from the head....

cams dont have bearings and they do snap....your head needs oil pressure also.....I would not use the oil for the head to feed the turbo

 

Dont take it from the head, run a -3 line from the back of the block and call it a day.
