89 si gauge cluster into a 91, can it work
I have a 89 civic si guage cluster with tach, i want to put into my 91 civic, can i make it work, i hear rule of thumb is to have 88-89 kept together, 90-91 together, HELP?
I have a gague cluster from a90 CRX hf that has the tach and a shift light. I need a good cluster for an 89 Si and I,m willing to trade. I bought this cluster for my son,s car, but really don't want to rewire. If you are interested, I am willing to make an even swap, each of us paying shipping to the other.
hey kizner, what happened to you? You need a cluster for a 91, I have one and you don't respond? With the 89 that you have, you will have to rewire, change the mounts in the dash, AND replace the cluster housing. Contrary to popular belief, there were many changes from 89 to 90 and the instrument clusters are very different. Don't get me wrong, they can be interchanged but you face a lot of rewiring of the cluster AND the switches in the housing to make this work. Lets talk, I'll trade a 91 cluster for your 89 cluster. All I really need is the gas gague, but the whole cluster would be easier. Please respond and lets make a deal.

cluster fits fine in my 91 hatch. There was a change made between 90-91 in the shape of the cluster itself. The change is hard to notice unless you compare the two clusters side by side. Along with having to redo the wiring in order to use the 89 cluster in a 91 you would have to change the metal mounts holding the cluster in the dash and the cluster dash cover from an 89 model..... which means any swiches/relays mounted in this cover will have to have the correct plugs (from an 89 model) wired in. By the way are you sure this cluster is out of an 89 or were you just told that?
It seems I have what you need, and you have what I need, so why don't we swap? I can make what I have work but it would be so much easier to install what was original. I am ready to swap if you are. Just let me know, I'm tired of worrying about my 16 year old son being on the road in a car with no fuel or temp gague. Lets do this deal and have what we need without 10 time the work and $ involved
