In 1989 I bought an Acura Integra (It is about to wear out!)
The power windows could not be moved with the power off. This true of
all cars marketed in the USA. I believe this is considered a "safety
feature", but I don't know what disaster it is intended to prevent.
I didn't like that idea, so I bought the service manual and traced out
the schematics of the car. (By the way, the service manual had lots
of errors!) It turned out that this "feature" was enforced by a relay
that was accessible from the fuse box. By removing the relay and
shorting one pair of terminals I bypassed the enforcement. I can now
move the windows without turning on the power.

has anyone done this?

Also, it's worth noting you can operate the windows with the key in the accessory position, without turning on the engine.
First click - radio
Second click (accessory position) - power windows, instrument panel warning lights, cigarette lighter outlet

Isnt' the first click the accessory position? Then the second is ignition and all the way is the starter? That is what I always thought but I'm also a bit looney.

I'm not sure which is called which, but I know those are the functions the first click and the second click do.

That's funny - I already said exactly the same thing. Only without the juvenile chatroom abbreviations like "u".

yup, my 91 accord kept all the power on as long as no one opened the door
but the damn EM1 is off as soon as the key is clicked off, dammit. my friend's chevy Tahoe actually keeps EVERYTHING on, like even the sound system keeps going until you open the door
