Default sputtering and guages going nuts.b18

Ok I'll be driving along and my speedo will stop working, tach will start jumping around, and starts sputtering.I let off the gas it stops sputtering,or I mash the gas it stops sputtering, but the guages still go crazy.Any ideas?I rebuilt the distibutor and it solved my problem for a few days but its back again.I'm thinking the distibutor coil or ecu.Anybody experience this before?I need to drive this car 1200 miles 3 days from now.
Any and all help apreciated

I would suggest changing out either the coil and/or the ignitor and see if that helps your problems.

Yes, CHECK ALL THE GROUNDS RIGHT AWAY! Problems such as gauges going wild and a constanly lit, but dim check engine light point directly to bad ground(s). Pay particular attention the ground on the thermostat housing and the grounds on the transmission and passenger side frame rail. I suspect something is either broken, corroded, or just loose. In fact, if you have done an engine swap, there is a most excellent chance that you did not properly tighten one of the ground screws.
