please don't flame me for this post. I have searched but didn't find anything that would compare the two issues. after taking my daughter to dance class I came out to start my 91 CRX SI and It wouldn't turn over and there was clicking coming from the main relay (little black box above the hood release). I called a friend and after we couldn't get it to turn over he gave me a push and the car started right up and I drove it home. Once I got it home I tried it again and had the same results. THe battery is about 3 months old and the starter about 4 months old. What do you guys think.

Most likely it's your main relay. However, you were able to kick start it. Check to see if your fuel pump is priming when you turn the key to the on position. If you can't hear a humming sound, then it's the main relay.

 

hey man... 1) if it is your starter then have someone turning the key while you are hitting the starter and solenoid with something metal(like a big wrench or pipe) 2)if it is your starter relay or main relay, a)get an ohm meter and test each relay or b)go find a 88-91 civic/crx in a junk yard and grab the relay(s) out of it.. trim level(si,dx,hf) doesnt matter, they are use the same

 

hey thanks fo the forum cuz my 91 civic hatch is not starting... i dont noe wat the problem is... im not gettin spark and the car still isnt startin... it seems like every time i try to start it... the battery starts drainin... i recharge the battery...still nottin... i thing its the starter relay... hopefully sumone can help me cuz its been frustrating me so bad...

First thing you need to do is find out why you aren't getting any spark. Two things to look at are the coil and ignitor. Usually that is the reason for no spark situations.

 

main relay, easy to fix with solder iron, and check your grounds on your engine & trans.
