New ls/vtec build up ........WHAT RODS?
Wich rods would you use? I tried searching but never found a straight answer. The following brands are what Im considering. CROWER ECONOS 400.00 SCAT 300.00 OR EAGLE 300.00-350.00. MY PLANS ARE ALL MOTOR WITH A 75-100 SHOT. I considered using stock rods shot peened. But since I have to crack the block open anyways I thought I would bullet proof the bottom. I live close to crower but of course they would have a biased opinion. So Please tell your experience good and bad........thanks . comment on those not listed that you may have used .

also see how much each rod weighs...i would go with the lightest one since your power levels will be pretty low

We buy semi-finished rods from Scat and finish hone the big end and pin end.
Has worked perfectly to over 800whp and over 11k on our turbo GSR motor.
We had a Crower billet rod snap in half in a 600+whp H22 motor. This was not from oil failure as is the common case. The big end was still attached to the crank and spun freely.

detonation will cause a snapped rod as well, spun rod bearings, more rods snap and more bearings sping from detonation rather than oil starvation because the honda windage is just that good of a design.

I here that eagles are not finished like the crower, is this true, i hear there have been fitment issues with bearings with eagles.......the scats I have not heard any negatives, are the scats finished in house?

Yeah Billet Crower. The $700 ones.
I have my machine shop finish hone the semi-finished Scat rods on a Sunnen Power Rod Hone using a multi-step process. Rods are rough honed, allowed to cool and then finished hone. The rods heat up when honed so you can't take an accurate measurement when honing unless they are brought back to room temperature.

if he is on here asking about econo crower something tells me he is not interested in 900 dollar rods.... just a thought.....
in my 278hp 2.0ltr im running eagles and it has seen 150 dyno runs up to 8900 and they seem to work fine for me.....
donf has never had a problem with eagles... and he has only seen one break.. it was in an engine he was dynoing that someone else built.. he said when he got it the clearance numbers were to tight.. but the owner disagreed and had him run it like it was... it blowed up....

i think its coming down to eagle or scat,,,,,,,Just from reading I see some people have bearing fitment probs with the eagle........
i had eagle rods and the rod cap broke on me (not the bolt but the actual cap broke in half) and i wasnt making much power at all. im running some custom forged crower rods right now. they were rather expensive but should be bulletproof. ive been running a 60 shot for a while now and no problems at all. im about to bump it up to a 100 and still should have NO troubles. so i say go w/ crower.
