Default need help on my 90 HF

i just picked up a 90 HF

it has a full tune up, new distributor, 02 sensor, axleback exhaust

it's seemingly running rich and i'm only averaging 30ish mpg and getting alot of carbon coming out the rear muffler. it's also throwing me a check engine light, but it does'nt store a code, and i have yet to get to the ECU under the carpet.

any ideas on waht else it could be?

thanks!

I'm in Lee/Durham! Home from beautuful Troy NY for the Holidays (Hi Greg).
Anyway, is it running weird, any sluggishness or stuttering? When my timing was off I was blowing fuel like that. I was thinking it could also be a stuck (open) exhaust valve.

i've never known it to run right, it had a distributor problem when i picked it up

but it idles good. I just had the timing belt done, so i'm hoping they reset the timing. it better not be a valve, although that would be maybe what's throwing the light on.

i might just be stupid, but it's 12 short blinks

should'nt it have been a long one and two short ones.

no most obd0 ECU's only use short blinks so 12 is the code. EGR... I would try some carb cleaners to get some of the carbon out or maybe a new used one.

would love to say its affecting it but never used the EGR so have no first hand experience with it... Try cleaning or replacing it reset the ECU and see if its helping. Also if your WOT all the time thats gonna affect gas miledge.
