LSD question
I would like to know what are the symptoms (if any) of a broken/damaged LSD?
I know how to check to see if you have LSD; Peel out and look at the tire marks (but this happens without LSD also) & with car in gear and turning one wheel and checking the other & looking through the axles.
My question is if there is any tell tale signs when driving if a LSD is bad or on its way out. I tried the search but couldnt find much info.
Also, What happens if the LSD is bad: Would it act like an open differential or Would you not be able to go anywhere?
Just curious after reading other threads where people are wanting to upgrade their LSD. (It didnt seem like they had a valid reason except their wallets were heavy
) Only reason I see to purchase a helical type, quaife, would be if you dont have a LSD and clutch type, Kazz, if you do some serious road racing.

In the 1997 ITR Technician Guide and in the 1997 ITR Service Guide Supplement, there is a section on how to tell if your LSD is worn out or not. I forget exactly how this is done. I will go home and read up tonight and let you know. Or you can buy the Factory Service Supplement for the ITR on the Helms website.

Yes that is to check if the LSD is bad or not. You jack up the car, put in gear and turn one wheel and watch the other wheel.
