anyone know how hard it is to replace the CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER?
anyone know how to do it? or got pictures, etc....?

Wish I had pictures.

This is the easiest major repair I have done to my Civic.
If you've done any brake master cylinders, this is cake.

1. De-cotter pin clutch pedal from clutch master
2. Remove pin from pedal to master piston
3. Remove two nuts holding clutch master to firewall
4. Remove reservoir to master cylinder hose (might want to bleed fluid out first, if you're a neat freak, or hate brake fluid everywhere)
5. Pull clutch master cylinder free from firewall and maneuver it out

Installation is reverse of removal. Took me <1 hour.

BTW - does EVERYBODY get black clutch fluid in the 92-95 civic's? I've never seen one with clean fluid, despite multiple bleedings, it gets black quick. I think there is a defect in the system, which contaminates fluid, and then results in master cylinder failure. Anybody else have this problem?

whats the "DE-COTTER pin"?

also, did you replace your slave also?

how much is the master cyl?

 

de-cotter pin = remove the cotter pin. It looks like a hairpin without the bends.

No, I did not replace the slave.

Master cylinder depends on where you get it. I got mine for $90

I will be installing rear disks in my 93 hatch cx. I just ordered a 97 teg non-abs 15/16 inch mc/booster w/reservoir . Is this a bolt on affair? Are my brake lines going to line up or will I need new lines?

 

Can't tell, but probably not. Many of the fittings/angles are different with the Civics/tegs, but it can be rigged if you know how to double flare steel brake lines.

No guarantee there either. Some of the EX 15/16" MC have a "large" fitting on the back outlet, necessitating the same work

I just installed the GS-R booster and the 15/16 non-ABS master cylinder and the GS-R proportion valve, and it all bolts on PERFECTLY with NO line bending whatsoever! Make sure you get a NON-ABS one and the lines will bolt right up and screw in like normal. No line changing or bending that way.

I just did it last week, so believe me it's fresh in my mind. What year is your car? Mine is a 1992 Civic. 1992-1993 Civic had a different shaped firewall than the 1994-1995 in terms of where the Prop valve bracket goes.

Easy enough to just swap brackets on the prop valve from the Teg one to yours if you own a 1992-1993 Civic. If you got a 1994-1995 then the Teg bracket should work just fine.

Only thing that is a little different is that the new booster will stick out more because it's thicker, but if you route the lines like they should be then you'll still have clearance between the lines and the driver side strut tower area.

I have a 93 cx hatch. I just purchased rear trailing arms and prop valve from a 93 SI hatch. Which mc should I get? I know the 92-95 ex mc's won't work since they have ABS. Will the 94-up teg 15/16" non-abs mc's bolt in with no brake line modifications? When purchasing one, should I also get the booster?

 

oh, here's my brake problem. i did a rear disk conversion on my 95 ex coupe. i tried removing the stock prop. valve and replacing it with a '4040' one, but all the little 10 mm brake line bolts stripped! ahhh! so, am i stuck with my stock prop. valve.?

 

As i staed above the 15/16 non-ABS Integra Master Cylinder boltis up fine with NO mods to lins whatsoever.

Andas for stripping the lines? ALWAYS use a line wrench. For that very reason of stripping you should alwasy use a line wrench when tightening or breaking loose any lines - now you're screwed.

15/16 non-abs integra master cylinder only bolts up to non-abs integra brake booster!!! message me on swaps dealing with brakes on civics .. i've researched and experienced everything ..
