Default Removing Axel?

Anyone have a link that shows this? I tried googling and searching here, but I didnt' find a step by step on how to do it. I have done it to my old car (non honda), but I just want to make sure.

I was stupid enough to leave out my helms (I live in an apartment complex), and lost it. Sucks to loose something so valuable.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Awesome!! Thanks.

One quick question... Is it a MUST to drain the tranny in order to remove the axle? I just replace my fluid a couple weeks ago and don't want to waste it.

What kinda car?

I've changed axles in my '90 teg and never bothered to drain the trans.

I think that is more because some will leak out and you wont know exacltly how much. you could just pop the fill plug after doing the install and top it up.

Don't worry about the tranny fluid, just jack the car up level, and you won't lose any..

I've done this about 10 times; its a breeze job.

Actually, if you don't want to lose MTF, you only jack up the side of your car that you are working on, so the oil in the tranny flows to the other side of the tranny and not out of the hole you remove your axle from.

I was successful in replacing my axle...

Things that I would mention during the process that would help are... (In case someone searches and hit this link)

The replace is made to the driver's side axle... it connects to the intermediate shaft (common knowledge)...

What I feel is notable... is to release the axle from the intermediate shaft...I used a punch (aluminum dowel) to tap the shaft off. I know some articles say use a rubber hammer... but to control the hammer was quite difficult when your car is only jacked up three feet... so.. when using dowel (soft)... you can wack the crap out of it.. then again.. you are going to send that axle in for your core charge...

I just use a crow bar to pry it off and then you can just pull it with your hand the rest of the way...I know this worked when I pulled out the 3 LS blocks from the J/Y with the axle still intact in the hub, so I know this would be alot easier to do with it detached from the hub...actually it might be easier to pop it out of the intermediate shaft first (before taking off the axle nut and detaching it from the hub) since then you won't need someone to hold up the axle for it to be out of your way.

Yeah, I had tried the crow bar as discribed in the link, but it just didn't work for me... In fact, even when I was pounding on it with the dowel, it took several wacks.

Anyhow, thanks for all your help.
