Default N/A D16

Hi guys just looking for some help. what is a good whp number the D16 can put out? since this would be a pump gas motor. What is resonable compression to run with it? With the cost of cam, headwork, pistons, ect would a turbo be a better option? thanks for the help in advance.

Turbo will always make more power. It just depends on your budget, what you use the car for, and how much crap you're willing to put up with.

Mildly built D16Z6's usually put out around 130whp from what I've seen.

keeping compression around 11:1, Stage 2 or 3 cam, port and polished head, ECU tune. You guys think a all motor SOHC can make it into the 14's?

I've seen "average budget" amateur builds at around 140-160whp depending on what was done on pump gas.

I personally am making 121whp on my i/h/e, 2.25" cat, ac and ps CONNECTED, D16Y8 on a dyno that reads either "right on" or a little low - same dyno that gave my B18B1 (perfect comp) with intake, header, exhaust and no ps or ac a reading of 126whp shortly before. Most with my mods are making 114-118whp.

The Y8 and Z6 are 'similar' motors, so I'd imagine similar results on the Z6 - prolly a little better.

With a good cam, tuning, some cheap i/h/e parts, and maybe a larger TB...should see 130-140whp without much difficulty. Throw in head work and higher compression...150ish and higher depending.

I'm building a sleeved/stroked D16 atm... I expect about 200whp out of it when dialed in with 1.9L of displacement though.

Turbo is the cheaper way to 160whp...but it's kind of a matter of preference.

Nathan

You're not going to get good headwork along with the other stuff for 2,500.

My thoughts exactly. If 2500 is your absolute budget you don't really have alot of options. I'd advise saving p a tad more and goign witha good turbo kit. On a single cam that is goign to be you best bang for the buck by far. Hell....turbo's are the best bang for the buck period.

ok but can you guys point me in the direction of a good kit. There are a bunch and I would want to do it right the first time. 2500$ is not the limit. I can get more if needed. Just what I wanted to spend. Basically what im asking is for a 14 sec car. Nothing special. thanks guys (maybe this should be moved to the turbo or civic forum)
