Recomend a tire
Can anyone recomend a tire in the 100-125 price range. I will be mounting them on 15x6.5in rotas. btw i wont have the rims on for winter, only summer, so i guess a good allround street tire, that i can use at the track every once in a while.
Thanks
Thanks
The best matching 15" size for your 1997-2000 Civic is 195/55-15. If the tire you want doesn't come in that size, you can also use 205/50-15.
$100-125 is a pretty high price range. You can spend that much, but you certainly don't have to. What you will get by doing so is a higher-performance tire (better traction and handling). Depending on how much you want to spend - i.e. how much you're willing to trade off performance for price - here's what I would recommend, starting with the most economical and working up in performance from there:
<u>Budget Performance, "Bang for the Buck" Tires</u>:
Yokohama AVS ES100 195/55-15 $61
Kumho Ecsta SPT 195/55-15 $65
These are both very good tires and may be perfectly adequate for your needs. Expect them to last 25-40K miles. You can read a comparison test of these two tires here.
If you want to spend a little more for a little better performance, consider:
<u>"Value" Top-of-the-Line Street Tires</u>:
Toyo T-1R 195/55-15 $87
Kumho Ecsta MX 205/50-15 $79
These might last 15-25K miles.
Better still (but blows your price limit):
<u>Best Top-of-the-Line Street Tires</u>:
Bridgestone S-03 205/50-15 $139
These also might last 15-25K miles.
If you want to get really, really great performance, then you might consider:
<u>Specialty Super-Sticky Street Tires</u>:
Falken Azenis RT-615 205/50-15 $92
However, the downside with the Azenis is that they might only last you around 10K miles, so you'll have to buy new tires 2-3 times as often as with the others noted above.

Any time you pick a tire that's 20 mm wider than stock and is 1.7 percent larger in outer diameter than stock, there's a good chance of rubbing. Compared with 205/50-15, you will also experience slightly poorer acceleration (due to the larger diameter) and slightly poorer handling (due to the taller sidewalls). You're better off with the 205/50-15.

Yes.
The Bridgestone Potenza G009 is an all-season tire (and not a particularly good one). You said you aren't going to be using these tires in the winter, so you don't need an all-season tire. (The rest of the year, an all-season tire is not going to perform as well as a summer tire like those listed above.)
The Bridgestone Potenza RE750 is a summer tire. In performance, it's slightly above the Yokohama ES100 and Kumho SPT, and slightly below the Toyo T1-R and Kumho MX. In price, it's expensive - $100/tire in 205/50-15, which is significantly more than any of these four tires. That's why I don't recommend it; since there are other tires (the T1-R and the MX) that perform better and cost less, it doesn't make any sense to consider the RE750 (IMHO).

That's a very good tire at a very good price. I think you'll be very happy with it.

what about the goodyear eagle f1's? i rocked those on my turbo hatch. were pretty nice. they have wicked good wet traction. The eagle f1's were rated best of the year in car and driver or somethign like that, and were also rated the best on tire rack a lil bit ago.

I agree with nsxtasy about it all depends what you want. If you plan on going to the track couple of times I would go with the MX or T1-R but if you just go 2 times to the track or so the yokohama es100 are adequate to your needs.

The Goodyear F1 GS-D3 is indeed an excellent tire, perhaps the best all-around high-performance street tire on the market. I often recommend it. However, the only 15" size it comes in is 195/50-15. That's a bit too small for a 1997-2000 Civic, which is why I didn't mention it for EJ8VTEC's needs.
