Default b16 flywheel...shaved stock one or aftermarket?

Looking for a lightened flywheel for my b16. Should I just shave down my stock one? How far it be shaved down to safely (i have heard about 12 pounds)? Or should I get an aftermarket one? Clutchmaster, Exedy, Fidanza? I am a cheap *** and don't want to spend lots of money unless I know its worth it.

There is extra material on the outside of the flywheel that doesn't seem to do anything but increase its weight. I suggest shaving that off and no more. This should have no impact on the stiffness of the flywheel, but it would have a heavy impact on its moment of inertia.

Any shaving of the entire flywheel beyond that will make it thinner and flimsier. I don't know if doing this to an extent is acceptable, and I can't offer any solid numbers. I'm just trying to say that I'd be sketched out about doing this, especially if I'd be using a stronger pressure plate.
