97 Civic rattle from engine when cold...
Whenever it's cold outside (30F or below) my engine makes a metallic rattling sound when I start up the car. It almost sounds like a diesel engine (but on a smaller scale). It's not real loud but goes away when I take the revs past 2000. It completely disappears after the engine warms up. I've heard a crack in the header can cause this but have visually checked it and I see no cracks. It's actually been doing this for the past 3 or so years but I guess I got used to it. Anybody got some advice?
Honda engines can be a little noisey durring cold start up. The noise comes primarily from the valves. A valve adjustment would most likely quite the noise down considerably. It's good practice to get the valves adjusted every15 to 30k. Nothing to loose sleep over.
Ummmm, I understand your reply, but what in the hell is with that picture??
