Problem with '86 CRX Si sunroof
Any help greatly appreciated on the above topic. The sunroof will roll back, but when I try to close it: 1) the button to close doesn't respond, and 2) I have to manually retract it but it won't seal flush. Is there a bracket that I'm over looking. Thanks
id try cleaning out the tracks first, sounds like you might have a lot of **** built up in there, honda sunroofs are bad about cloging the drains and rustinig up too, id clean the rails up, blow out the drains with compressed air, and lube up the tracks real good with some white lithium grease
Thanks for the info. Would you also recommend possible removing the sunroof to see if there are any brackets on the back end that is possibly preventing it from dropping down.
I have the same problem with my '86 CRX sunroof. I removed, disassembled, cleaned and re-greased the whole assembly. (I would recommend doing this indoors, when you won't need to drive the car for a while, and in a place where the kids won't hear all the four-letter -words!!!) What I discovered in my case was a small, white plastic (i.e. "planned obsolescence") piece to the closing mechanism, on both sides near the rear of the sunroof track that was broken. I've tried numerous epoxies to fix it, because Honda decided to make it part of an integrated unit, so you can't just replace the plastic piece. If you can find and afford a whole new sunroof assembly, that's one option. I have found a way to close it using a flat head screwdriver to "nudge" the pin to allow the sunroof to drop into place. It doesn't require much pressure at all - just a little luck finding the right way to do it. Good luck!! If you try this way and still have trouble, send me an email ....rdombroske@yahoo.com, and I can walk you through it. We'd probably have to do it by phone, because it would be impossible for me to describe any better than this in writing. Best of luck!!!!
