'88 1.6l 16V VS '89 1.6l 16V CRX
Hi guys,
I've always been very much into EK's, but I'm getting more and more interested in a CRX. Now I was wondering what exactly is the difference between a '88 CRX 1.6l16V (don't know the chassis code) and a '89 1.6 16V? I know the newer models came with a cat (atleast in europe), but are there other differences suspension wise or are all parts innerchangeble? I'm asking this because can make a good deal on a '88 CRX, but this one has some rust issues on the chassis. But I can buy a shell of a '89 CRX (with no rust), so I was thinking of putting the parts from the '88 on the '89 shell.
I'm not sure if this will work, because I know the civic made a model change between '88 and '89, but did the crx?
Any help is apreciated.

88 cam is not quite as good, I think the motor is rated at 105 instead of 108 like the later ones. The flywheel change happened after 89, the 90-91's have a larger flywheel and clutch. Rear suspension is different but will bolt to the new chassis. The rear lower control arms are different on the 88's, they are the same style as the Type R. The 88's are a little lighter because the seat belts are on the B- pillar instead of in the door like the 89-91's.
Thanks guys.
Isn't the seat belt thing a US specific feature? I'm in Europe and I think we get the JDM crx chassis. Also the rex's I'm looking at have 135hp for the '88 (without a cat convertor) and 130hp for the '89 with cat

I think we speak from European chassis, and 1.6 Dohc engines. The 88 and 89 had basically same engine, D16A9 with 130hp.
There is no major diffrences between 88 and 89 A9's. Some little diffrences like ecu program, flywheel and other stuff. The chassis has also little diffrences, the rear suspension for a start.
And no, EDM does not share the same JDM chassis. But we share very much parts with Japan. And have much of our own too.
